Friday
Weather
Well just when you thought every day was precisely the same as the one before it, Thursday threw a blanket of cloud over the islands. The NE’ly wind really did feel pretty chilly without any sunshine to compensate for it. Friday should be a much more even fight though… yes we will still the force 4 NE’ly but there will be lots of sunshine this time, especially in the afternoon, so you will merely have to find a tall wall or maybe head down to one of the south-coast beaches, to feel the full benefit of the 14°C max temp. It’s going to be a chilly old night though, with a min temp of 6-7°C so be sure to wear a jacket if you’re out late, or if you’re going to get up early on Saturday.
Surf and the Water
Another day of flat surf, but lovely smooth water for swimming along the south coast, and also in a few west-coast nooks around the time of high-water… low tide will be at lunchtime and high tide will be at 6:55pm (roughly 8.6m).
Bank Holiday Weekend
Weather
Starting with Saturday and Sunday, we should see plenty of sunny spells although they will be punctuated by cloudy interludes and there is even the chance of some showers through the second half of Sunday (nothing serious though, just a spit and a spot). The loveliest feature of the weekend, compared to the week just gone, will be the lightness of wind… just a light force 3 NE’ly on Saturday, slipping away to a light force 2 NNW’ly on Sunday. Temperatures won’t be very high, only peaking around 13°C each day, but it will feel so much more comfortable than the previous windier days. Once again, the nights will be on the cool side, with minima of between 6 and 8°C, depending on cloud amount, so jackets will definitely be a good idea if you’re staying out late or getting up very early. Moving on to Monday, it’s not particularly certain but that day is looking like the sunniest of the three, so we should see temperatures rise to 14°C or maybe even 15°C, with the wind returning to that familiar NE’ly direction, but mercifully staying lovely and light.
Surf and the Water
Not only will the weekend offer some welcome respite from the fresh NE’ly wind, but it will also offer some relief from the frustrating flatness of the surf. Nothing to get too amped about I’m afraid, just a 1-2 foot swell for kids and longboarders. Definitely better than nothing though… starting late-afternoon Saturday with the incoming tide, then holding through Sunday, before fading back to near flatness by the end of Monday. Low tides will be in the early afternoons (just a little over 1m). High tides will be towards dusk (a little over 9m).
Next Week
Weather
Apart from the outside chance of the odd passing shower, it’s looking like another dry week, so the fields and gardens will be getting even thirstier I’m afraid. However it’s looking like great weather for outdoor activity, with gentle N’ly or NE’ly breezes bringing a mixture of cloud and sunshine… the temperatures staying in the mid-teens, just creeping very slowly upwards from 14-15°C at the front-end of the week, to about 16°C at the back-end.
Surf and the Water
There’s a slight chance of the odd pulse of rideable 1-foot waves (usually as the tide pushes up from mid to high), but the majority of the week will be flatter than a witch’s proverbial. Conditions will be good for swimming and paddle-boarding though… most coasts will be manageable because the winds will be fairly light, but the south coast will always be the cream of the crop.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
