Bank Holiday Monday
Weather
It will be a bit like Sunday in reverse, cloudy with some patchy rain or drizzle early morning, becoming dry and bright by lunchtime, then sunny and very comfortable by late afternoon. The wind will be just a light force 2-3 NE’ly all day, so the 14°C max temp should feel reasonably warm, especially along the south coast.
Surf and the Water
The 2 foot surf should be reasonably clean, thanks to the lightness of the cross-shore breeze. Good swimming and paddle-boarding conditions too, especially along the south coast. High water will be about 9m at 8:24am and 8:37pm.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
A couple of likely dry days, because there is only the remotest chance of a shower clipping the islands as it wanders southwards across the Channel. Winds will be even lighter than on Monday. Barely noticeable for the majority of the time, so we will probably only be able to determine the direction, during the afternoon, when the heating of nearby France will cause a bit of a circulation around Normandy, just putting Guernsey in a bit of a NNW’ly flow, thus making the south coast the warmest and most pleasant area to go for a walk. Cloud will come and go, but there will be plenty of sunshine to go around, giving us max temps of around 15°C on both days. (Overnight min temps should be around 8°C).
Surf and the Water
The swimming and paddle-boarding conditions will be beautiful, but the surf will be on the decline. Still clean, but only 1-2 feet on Tuesday, then virtually flat by the end of Wednesday. The tides will be shrinking, with breakfast-time highs of about 8.7m on Tuesday and about 8.4m on Wednesday.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
The breeze will back to a WNW’ly direction and just increase a teeny bit to light force 3. This will bring further dry and comfortably average conditions (mixed cloud and sunshine). The good thing about this wind-direction however, is that Town will be on the sheltered side of the island, so the Urban heat effects will not be hindered by the cooler sea temperatures. This means that whilst the airport records max temps of 14-15°C on each day, Town should easily climb to 16°C.
Surf and the Water
The east-coast swill be loveliest for swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding. There won’t be anything on offer for wind or wave junkies though. Tides will be about high mid-morning… about 8m on Thursday and about 7.5m on Friday.
The Weekend
Weather
The wind will return to a NE’ly direction, or maybe even an E’ly direction by Sunday, meaning that the west coast and particularly the south coast will become the more favoured sides of the island. Apart from that, things will be more or less the same… dry with mixture of cloud and sunshine. It does look as though warmer air will be wafting in our direction though, so we could see temperature rise as high as 16-17°C on Saturday, 17-18°C on Sunday and perhaps even higher on Liberation Day.
Surf and the Water
At this range, it’s not at all clear whether there will be any surf, but if there is then it would almost certainly be very small. However, on the flip-side, it would be increasingly clean. As for the tides, they will be even smaller, with highs around midday… roughly 7m on Saturday, 6.6m on Sunday and 6.3m on Liberation Day.
The next forecast update will be on Tuesday evening…
