Liberation Day
Weather
Ooh wat a treat! Winds will stay light but importantly they will veer SSE’ly, allowing us to import a little French heat and probably breach the magic 20°C for the max temp, possibly even hit 21 or 22°C in the warmest zones. As for the weather it’s just looking like high cloud and hazy sunshine, simple as that. Don’t get burnt though… UV 6, so you will definitely need your hats, lotions and all that jazz.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be waist-high and super-clean, with a tiny tide (roughly 6.2m high at 1:03pm) so you ought to be able to find a rideable wave at almost any time of day. Great swimming and paddling conditions too, just about anytime any place, but especially in the north and west around lunchtime.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
There could even be a few spits of rain early Tuesday morning… not enough to satisfy the thirsty fields and gardens, but anything remotely wet stands out like a sore thumb right now. However, once that fairly thick cloud has cleared off, we will be back to sunny skies. Much cooler than Monday though, due to a moderate force 4 W’ly. Most parts of the island will peak at 15-16°C, but Town will do better with a top temp of about 17-18°C. Wednesday will then maintain the sunny skies (apart from a few cloudy spells in the morning). We will have some slightly cooler air over the islands (about a degree down on Tuesday). As for the wind, same strength as Tuesday but coming from a SW’ly direction, meaning that some parts of the west and north coasts will benefit from a little more shelter.
Surf and the Water
Choppy surf on Tuesday, cleaner waves on Wednesday. A pretty decent size though, compared to the recent quiet spell, probably 3 feet on Tuesday and then a solid 4-5 feet on Wednesday. Swimmers will love the east coast on both days, but there will be also some sheltered nooks along the west coast and north coasts on Wednesday. Tides still small, but gradually getting larger, with early afternoon highs of 6.5m on Tuesday and 7m on Wednesday.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
The skies will be a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine (sunshine for the most part I think) and the wind will veer W’ly again. However, it will drop off to light force 3 for quite a lot of the time, so it should feel a bit more comfortable, even if it doesn’t bring any extra heat. Max temps generally around 15-16°C both days, but managing 17°C quite easily in Town
Surf and the Water
Lumpy sloppy 3 foot west-coast surf. Definitely better than nothing. Lovely swimming conditions on the east coast, especially around Bordeaux for those early evening high tides… about 7.5m on Thursday and about 8.1m on Friday.
The Weekend
Weather
No change in the fine and dry outlook. This is all due to high pressure having been in charge of our weather for so long. The temperature variations from day to day, are all determined by the position of the high centre relative to us. On Saturday, it is likely to be directly overhead, and this means virtually no wind, therefore we will simply get as much heat as the Guernsey sunshine will allow, rather than importing cooler air (as per the previous days with W’ly winds), or importing warmer air (as per Liberation Day with its SSE’ly wind). The most likely max temp on Saturday will be between 17 and 19°C. Moving on to Sunday, the high pressure centre will be over the north sea and this will give us a moderate E’ly breeze, pumping French heat over the islands, possibly reaching 23°C which would be the warmest day of the year so far
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will probably be 3 feet and clean and the conditions will also be great for swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding on both days. Bigger tides again, with highs soon after dawn and then again around dinner time (roughly 8.4m on Saturday and roughly 8.9m on Sunday).
The next forecast update will be on Wednesday evening…
