Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 23 May 2022

Stunning Saturday sunset…

Monday to Wednesday

Weather

The common theme between these three days is a rather fresh W’ly airflow (especially strong on Wednesday). Tuesday is the odd day out because that one will be mostly dry and sunny. Monday and Wednesday will both have a lot more cloud as well as more rain or showers. The heaviest showers look set for Monday afternoon and evening, and there’s even the chance of a rumble of thunder then. As for the temperature… Monday’s max will be 15°C in most places but probably 16°C in Town. Tuesday’s max will be a degree lower in all places despite having much more sunshine. Then Wednesday’s will recover to the same values as on Monday.

Surf and the Water

Choppy surf every day, especially Wednesday, but the waves will be very rideable, especially on account of the tides being quite small (generally 7.5m on the highs)… 1-2 feet on Monday, 2-3 feet on Tuesday and 3-4 feet on Wednesday. As for the swimming, definitely best to stay on the east coast for that.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

With high pressure developing in the mouth of the Channel, we will see two dry and mostly sunny days, the first of which will have a force 3-4 WNW’ly wind and the second will just have a force 2-3 NNW’ly breeze. Temperatures will rise day on day, such that Thursday peaks at 16°C in most places but at least 17°C in Town. Friday will then be one or maybe even two degrees warmer in all areas, with the southeast facing beaches really being the cream of the crop (Fermain, Moulin Huet, Saints and Petit Bot).

Surf and the Water

The waves will become much less choppy (especially on Friday) and there will be a decent little swell left over (still 2-4 feet). The swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding conditions will also be much improved, and best of all down on the south coast. High tides will increase to about 8m around dawn and dinner time.

The Weekend

Weather

With that high pressure system slipping northwards, our winds will veer to an ENE’ly direction due to the clockwise flow of air around it. This means that we will be pulling warmer and drier air from continental Europe, so the copious sunshine will take temperatures to around 20°C on both days. The south coast will offer the warmest and most sheltered beaches, but the northern corners of the west-coast bays will be just about as toasty.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be 2-3 feet and semi-clean (bit of a cross-shore wind). Tides will be low at lunchtime, and the highs will be around 8.5m between 6 and 7 o’clock (morning and evening). Once again, the best swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding conditions will also be down on the south coast.

The next forecast update will be on Wednesday evening…
