Nine day Guernsey weather forecast for 26 May 2022

Thursday

Weather

The threat of patchy drizzle (which didn’t add up to much on Wednesday) should really be over by Thursday. We will still have a lot of low cloud though, however, not without a few bright or sunny spells, especially towards the end of the day. Temperatures should be one up on Wednesday, hitting 16°C in most areas, but tipping over to 17°C in town. Generally feeling a bit nicer though, due to the W’ly wind being a bit lighter (just force 3-4).

Surf and the Water

The 3-foot surf will be marginally less choppy than on Wednesday, due to the onshore wind being a bit gentler. The main event will be the east-coast swimming though, especially in the afternoon, when the water will be particularly sheltered and smooth. Low water will be about 2.4m at 10.54am and high water will be about 7.7m at 4:55pm.

Friday

Weather

A weather front will briefly bring a little drizzle and hill-fog around dawn, but it should have cleared southwards before the morning rush-hour, leaving us with lengthening sunny spells through the morning and then unadulterated blazing blue skies in the afternoon. Temperatures should climb another degree, peaking at 17-18°C and it’s really going to feel a bit warmer too, because the breeze will only be a light force 2-3 NW’ly.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be more or less the same as on Thursday, and the swimming will be great again too, but this time the smoothest water will be along the south coast. Low water will be about 2.1m at 11:41am and high water will be about 8.1m at 5:40pm.

The Weekend

Weather

Super-sunny on Saturday, and feeling about as warm as on Friday, because the temperature will be about half a degree higher, whilst the NE’ly breeze will be just a tad stronger. Sunday will be very similar, except that the temperature will be a degree lower, due to a slightly cooler air-mass approaching from the northeast. During the evening, cloud will gradually increase, ahead of the actual cold-front, which will bring a little rain later in the night. All-in-all, a thoroughly gorgeous weekend… not quite as warm as some recent weekends, but still good enough for some beach-time, especially down on the south coast in the early afternoons.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be 2 feet on Saturday and just 1 foot on Sunday… semi-clean, with a bit of a cross-shore wind. Tides will be low at lunchtime, and the highs will be around 8.5m between 6 and 7 o’clock (morning and evening). Once again, the best swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding conditions will also be down on the south coast.

Next Week

Weather

Monday is looking dry, sunny but relatively chilly, with a max temp of only 16-17°C. After that, the temperatures will rise a little each day, until we peak around 20°C on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Despite that warming trend, the weather won’t be entirely settled, with some showers likely at times, especially on Wednesday, when some thundery downpours will not be out of the question.

Surf and the Water

Probably flat at times, but for the most part we are probably looking at small clean surf for young kids and for longboarders (1-2 feet mostly on the mid- to high tide push). Winds will generally be light enough that it’s not too choppy where it’s blowing onshore. However, the smoothest conditions will always be on the south coast, where it’s offshore, and also in the northern corners of the west-coast bays. Tides will be medium in size, with highs in the mornings and evening, roughly 8.5m at the start of the week, dropping off to 8m by the end of the week.

The next forecast update will be on Saturday evening…
