Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 06 June 2022

Monday

Weather

If you’re doing the laundry today then get it through the wash and out on that line as early as possible, because the morning will be dry and breezy, before the afternoon turns increasingly wet. In the hazy sunshine of late-morning/lunchtime, we should reach our max temp of around 17-19°C, then through the afternoon it will only taper off slowly as we carry on importing mild air from France, even though the skies will be gloomier and the rain will become persistent and rather heavy.

Surf and the Water

A small tidal range, with a high of only 7.1m at 11:33am, then a low of 3.6m at 5:41pm. Surfers will probably have to wait a bit longer to find a rideable wave, although there is a slim chance that longboarders could just about stay afloat on the 1-footers that start to roll in around dusk. Swimmers will have a good session today, just about anywhere except the south coast… the east coast will be best in the morning and the west and north coasts will be great all day (but especially at lunchtime).

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather

After a drizzly and misty Monday night, we will have further murk to contend with on Tuesday morning, possibly with poor enough visibility to delay a few flights in and out of the islands. There should be a slow and steady improvement though, with the cloud likely to have lifted off the ground (no more fog) by the end of morning rush-hour (if not before) and then a few patches of blue sky appearing and slowly widening to let some brightness or sunshine through. Tuesday evening might well turn misty again, but that’s not very certain at this stage. What is more definite is that we will get a decent dose of rain during the night time, before we wake up to a repeat performance on Wednesday… a bit of early murk, followed by brightness or sunshine for the vast majority of the day. Both days will see peak temperatures of 16-18°C (with Town always being the warmest spot). Winds will vary between SSW’ly and WSW’ly… light to moderate on Tuesday, moderate to fresh on Wednesday.

Surf and the Water

Tuesday’s surf will be more definitely rideable than it has been for a week or more. However, it still won’t be particularly impressive, with just 1-2 sets in the morning, picking up to 2-3 feet by the end of the day. The small tidal range will help (with a high of just 6.9m at lunchtime) and the wind direction will make the waves increasingly clean as the day progresses. If you are swimming then it will be best to head east in the morning, north in the afternoon or west in the evening. Moving on to Wednesday, the west-coast surf will be about a foot bigger but also quite a lot choppier, and the swimmers will definitely find that the east coast is best for them.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

The only bit of rain will be a brief sprinkle towards the end of Thursday night and the beginning of Friday morning. Otherwise, we are looking at two days of dryness and partial sunshine (the bulk of the sunshine being in the afternoons), with the moderate SW’ly winds bringing pleasant but unremarkable temperatures. The daily maxima will range from 17-19°C, depending on your precise location (Town always being the warmest spot).

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf should be 3-4 feet and reasonably clean on both days. The tides will still be small in the grand scheme of things, but they will be bigger than they were through the first half of the week, so it will be difficult to find good waves around the early morning and late evening lows. The afternoons will really offer the most opportunities. As for the swimmers, the north and east coasts will really have the smoothest conditions for them, especially mid-afternoon when the tide is highest.

The Weekend

Weather

A fine and dry weekend, with temperatures staying around average (just a tiny bit higher). The W’ly winds will be quite a bit lighter than the previous days, so it should feel very comfortable, but obviously not if you have sunburn to contend with (UV index of 7), so don’t forget to take your hats and sun-cream whenever you are out and about between roughly 10am and 4pm.

Surf and the Water

Bigger surf again… 5-6 feet on both days. The wind will be onshore but it won’t be strong enough to really mess things up, so there should be plenty of big smiles all round, especially due to the sunshine and the feeling of flexibility (winter suits and accessories really haven’t been necessary for a month or two now). As for the swimming conditions, the will remain best along the east coast. And the tides… late morning lows of 2.4m (Sat) and 2m (Sun), late afternoon highs of 7.9m (Sat) and 8.4m (Sun).

The next forecast update will be on Wednesday morning …
