Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 11 June 2022

Saturday

Weather

Only the odd puff of cloud in an otherwise sunny day. The gentle WSW’ly breeze will bring less humid than on Friday, and for that we can be grateful, because it will mean bright blue sky and brilliant visibility. The temperature will peak between 18 and 20°C, depending on your precise location, with the warmest spots being out east (especially Town).

Surf and the Water

The surf won’t be quite as whopping as Friday evening, but it will still be really solid, one of the strongest swells that we have seen in months. West coast waves will be about 6 feet in the morning, dropping off to 5 feet in the afternoon, there might be some small but rideable waves on the north and south coasts too, so it could be worth looking there if you’re not so keen on the big stuff. As for the swimming and paddling-boarding, definitely best to head east, where the water will be gorgeously smooth all day long. High water will be roughly 7.9m at 4:52pm.

Sunday

Weather

The wind will be so light that you barely feel it, but it will subtly change to a NW’ly direction, making the south coast about as warm as the east coast. Otherwise, there really isn’t any change to speak of… Just the same old glorious sunshine, with temperatures peaking between 18 and 20°C.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast waves will be just as clean as on Saturday, possibly even clean and, because it will drop off to about 4 feet, it will be a much more manageable size for younger/less experienced surfers. All coasts will be smooth enough for swimming and paddle-boarding at some time of the day. However, the most dependable coasts will always be the south and the east. Low water will be at High water will be just before midday, and high water will be roughly 8.4m at 5:46pm.

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

The flawless weather will continue through at least these two days… the only small differences being the finer details of the breeze and the knock-effect on temperatures. Very slowly, the breeze, albeit extremely light (force 2 force the most part), will change direction from a NW’ly to a N’ly, just meaning that the south coast will begin to nudge ahead of the east coast, in the contest for warmest part of the island. That said, with no real change of air-mass, the daily max temps are still expected to be between 18 and 20°C.

Surf and the Water

More fabulous swimming conditions, particularly along the east coast on Monday and along the south coast on both days. As for the west-coast surf, lovely and clean again (perhaps a bit wobbly without a decent offshore breeze though), 3 feet dropping to 2 feet through Monday, then 2 feet dropping to 1 foot through Tuesday. Big tides, with highs in the early morning and at dinner-time (roughly 9m on Monday and 9.2m on Tuesday).

The Rest of Next Week

Weather

As is usually the case, the back end of the forecast is the uncertain time. This time, the uncertainty is not really about whether we will hang on to dry and settled weather. Of that we can be quite confident. What is less certain is the wind and cloud detail, and the effect it will have on temperature. At the moment, a few computer models are suggesting that we will have a very warm/hot continental airflow, with daytime temperatures climbing to the mid-high twenties, and night-time temperatures only falling to the mid-high teens. It’s not far off mid-summer’s day now, so it’s not that unusual. However, as I said, it is very uncertain, because other models suggest that we will have a moderate NW’ly airflow, which would keep max temperatures much closer to 20°C and min temperatures around 13-14°C. Watch this space for updates…

Surf and the Water

With moderate to fresh W’ly winds blowing consistently across the mid-Atlantic, the surf probably won’t be flat, but rather maintain some weak 1-2 foot waves right through until the weekend. However, big tidal movements will mean that you will have to really seize the moment whenever it’s looking good, because those moments are unlikely to last longer than an hour or so.

The next forecast update will be on Monday morning…
