Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 20 June 2022

Wind- blown sand stripes…

Monday

Weather

The NE’ly wind will not have quite as much gusto as it did at the weekend, but at force 4-5 this will still be the defining feature of the day, keeping the rather chilly feeling under leaden skies in the morning and then increasingly blue skies in the afternoon and evening. The south coast cliff paths will generally be the most sheltered place to take a walk, although the west coast will also be quite good around high water (lunchtime). Smaller tides than of late, will mean that some beaches maintain a lovely strip of dry sand beneath the shelter of the sea wall. Max temp 18-19°C)

Surf and the Water

Maybe some rideable 1 foot waves as the tide pushes towards its lunchtime high (7.9m). There should still be some action for kite-surfers and windsurfers too. Apart from that, it’s really going to be a day for a bit of south-coast swimming, with high tide being the best time for maximum shelter.

Tuesday

Weather

Another dry day, but with some differences too (generally for the better). The wind will stay NE’ly, but drop off to force 3-4, making it much more comfortable. This, along with an increased number of sunshine hours, should result in us hitting the magic 20°C figure again. Once again, the easiest place to feel the heat will be along the south coast, but it will also be good on some western beaches around lunchtime.

Surf and the Water

Once again, just the chance of some rideable 1 foot waves as the tide pushes towards its lunchtime high (7.6m). Probably not enough wind for kite-surfers and windsurfers any more though. As for the good old south-coast swimming, high tide will be smoothest but it won’t be quite so important with the winds being lighter than the previous days.

Wednesday to Friday

Weather

These days will be a degree or two warmer again (therefore peaking at 21-22°C). Skies will be super sunny on Wednesday, but a little cloudier on Thursday and Friday, with just a chance of some showers on those nights. The biggest improvement at this end of the week comes from the wind, changing direction and falling beautifully light at times… force 2-3 NNE’ly on Wednesday, force 1-2 NW’ly on Thursday, then force 3-4 SW’ly on Friday. Town will clearly be the warmest area on all three days, and the entire coastline will be great for a bit of beach time at some point or another.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will stay tiny, just 1-2 feet, but with a longer wave-period giving a little more push, it should be pretty good for longboarding at times. Swimming conditions will be best along the south coast on Wednesday, all coasts on Thursday and then on the east coast on Friday. High tides will be in the afternoons… 7.3m on Wednesday and Thursday, 7.4m on Friday.

The Weekend

Weather

Force 4-5 SW’ly winds will bring sunshine and showers through the majority of the weekend, although we might see a more prolonged spell of drizzly rain on Saturday morning. Max temperatures will generally be a couple of degrees lower than the previous few days, but possibly almost as warm in Town.

Surf and the Water

It’s early days, but my current expectation is that a rather sloppy and weak but nonetheless quite sizeable swell will build through the weekend and the beginning of next week. Saturday will probably be around 2 feet and Sunday around 3-4 feet. Both days reasonably clean at Vazon, but nothing special really. Swimmers will find the smoothest water on the north and east coasts. Low tides will be late mornings and high tides late afternoons… 7.6m and 7.9m respectively.

The next forecast update will be on Thursday morning…
