Six day Guernsey weather forecast for 12 July 2022

Tuesday

Weather

With the exception of the coming weekend, this will be the hottest day of this particular week in July. Monday may have been roasting toasting, but we can probably add about 4°C to that, which means that we should peak at that landmark number 30°C. Winds will be very light indeed, SE’ly to begin then gradually veering round to a NW’ly by the end of the day. Skies will not be the brightest blue, because there will be quite a lot of fuzzy high cloud to turn the sunshine soft and hazy. However the UV index will still be a sunburny 7 or 8, so if your way of dealing with the heat is quick-fire alternation between sea-swimming and sunbathing, then you will certainly need lots of suncream and lots of drinking water. Alternatively, if staying indoors is your thing, then it will be best to have your windows/doors open early and late, but make sure they are firmly closed (with the blinds/curtains also closed) between around 10am and 6pm.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean 1-2 foot surf along the west coast, and lovely smooth water for swimmers on all coasts. Low water will be just after midday, and high water will be just before 6am and just after 6pm (8.1m and 8.5m respectively).

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

Weather

Ahh, a gentle to moderate N’ly breeze to just take some of that heat back down to France, and leave us with more comfortable daily maxima of 23-24°C and refreshing nightly minima of around 15°C. Skies will be mostly sunny but there will be some quite lengthy cloudy spells on Wednesday, and a few brief moments on Thursday and Friday too. Wednesday, being the cloudiest day of the week, does offer the smallest chance of little shower or two. If that does happen then it would most likely be in the evening and overnight. However, with less than 1mm in the wettest case scenario, it wouldn’t be anywhere near enough to give our gardens the proper drink that they are craving.

Surf and the Water

Cleanish surf on all three days. Definitely best on Wednesday but still rideable on Thursday and Friday (3 feet Wednesday, 2 feet Thursday, 1 foot Friday). The tidal movements will be pretty large… with early afternoon lows making for excellent swimming on the south coast beaches. High tides will be around breakfast time and in the evening, gradually increasing in size, until we have a whopping 9.5m late Friday.

The Weekend

Weather

Saturday looks set to be about as hot as the Tuesday before it. Then Sunday could be the peak of this exceptionally hot spell, with temperatures climbing at least 2°C higher. If Sunday isn’t the peak, then it could even be in the early part of next week. If that’s all sounding a bit oppressive, then I’m afraid I can’t even offer you any night-time cooling to look forward to, as even the min temps will be hot and sticky, something like 20°C. As, for the weather detail… the sunshine will be as intense as ever, so protecting your skin and staying hydrated will be more important than ever. Don’t forget, if you’re staying indoors, then the best way to keep cool will be to keep windows and blinds closed all day. And if you’re heading to the beach, then the coolest spots will be where the wind is onshore, so given that we expect a light to moderate SE’ly on both days, then those cooler spots will be along the south and east coasts.

Surf and the Water

It’s a virtually flat surf forecast I’m afraid, but at least that makes for easy swimming conditions, and no doubt there will be lots and lots of people taking to the sea to keep cool. The best advice is to keep it mellow... this is definitely not a weekend for challenging physical activity, much more suitable for a bit of holiday-style paddling and splashing around. High tides will be mid-morning and around dusk (all of them between 9m and 9.5m). Low tides will be mid-afternoon.

The next forecast update will be on Thursday evening…
