Thursday
Weather
With a force 3-4 NW’ly breeze bringing just a little bit of bubbly cloud in an otherwise blue and sunny sky, Most parts of the island will climb to a comfortable max temperature of 21°C, but Town, as well as the south-coast Cliffs and beaches, should go a bit further and peek out 22-23°C.
Surf and the water
For west-coast surfers, we are looking at 2-3 foot waves with an onshore breeze making it slightly choppy, but that breeze should still be light enough to maintain some reasonable quality for an August session. For the best swimming and paddle boarding conditions, then the south coast and the east coast will certainly be worth making the effort to go to. High water will be 7.8m at roughly 11:30am.
Friday
Weather
With the wind shifting slightly to a force 4 (or perhaps force 5) N’ly, we probably won’t see any increase in temperature despite the fact that there will barely be a cloud in the sky. Town might actually feel a little chillier than Thursday, due to slightly greater exposure to that wind. However, the south coast cliffs and beaches will still be very sheltered, so that will be the place to go if you want to feel warmest.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be tiny and choppy south-coast waters will be nice and smooth for a swim again. High tide will be about 7.6m just after midday.
The Weekend
Weather
The sunny weather will continue through the weekend and again the wind will balance this out with a bit of a chilly feeling at times. However, there will be a very slight nudge to a due NE’ly direction, just bringing a tiny bit more continental influence and thereby raising the temperatures by 1°C (or maybe 2°C by Sunday if we are lucky). Once again, head on down to that south coast for the best of it.
Surf and the water
’m afraid the surf is looking virtually flat, but the swimming conditions are looking as lovely as ever all along the south coast and also in the northern corners of the west-coast bays. Low tides will be around breakfast and towards dusk. High tides will be around lunchtime / early afternoon.
Next Week
Weather
Nothing but dry weather and sunny skies, with a moderate or perhaps fresh NE‘ly wind through the first half of the week, giving daily max temperatures in the low 20s, just like the weekend that preceded it. The second half of the week is less certain, but early indications suggest that the wind will veer to an E’ly direction, which would have the effect of increasing daily max temperatures to the high 20s.
Surf and the Water
Surf is looking flat until Wednesday at least. Thursday and Friday are just far enough out of range that there is some hope of a change for the better, although there is no particular promise of it in the forecast models at the moment. Plenty more beautiful swimming conditions though, especially down along the south coast. As for the tides, we will start with low waters in the mid-mornings and then they will gradually shift to lunchtime. Likewise for high waters, they will start in the mid-afternoons and gradually shift into the evenings.
The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
