Guernsey Weather Fox

Eight day Guernsey weather forecast for 14 August 2022

Sunday

Weather

The cooler day of the weekend, but still rather muggy and sweaty. The breeze will be very gentle indeed, but because it will be wafting up from the south it will bring quite a lot of cloud from the nearby French thunderstorms. That cloud might even squeeze out one or two plump raindrops, but these raindrops will be far more likely in Jersey than in Guernsey, and even there they wouldn’t be sufficient to change the crispy crunchy nature of the ground underfoot. Max temps for the day will be 25-26°C, then min temps overnight will be about 17-18°C.

Surf and the Water

Flat surf but lovely smooth water for swimming all around the island. Low tide will mid-afternoon high tides around breakfast time and shortly after dusk (9.6 and 9.9m respectively).

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

Some mist and fog patches will have developed in the area on Sunday night, and these might come and go at just about anytime, as the gentle breezes (W’ly on Monday and S’ly on Tuesday) waft them onto windward coasts. Most places will maintain good visibility though, under partly-sunny/partly-cloudy skies. The most significant developments will really be the decreasing temperature and the increasing shower risk. Daily max temps will be between 22 and 24°C, nightly min temps will be about 16°C. As for those showers; if we see any on Monday then they are likely to be late and light; on Tuesday however they will be in the area throughout the day and the night and they will be much heavier, so there’s a good chance of racking up as much as 5mm.

Surf and the Water

The frustrating flatness will continue for surfers, but the silky swimming conditions will continue to offer great alternatives. High tides will be in the mid to late mornings (9.5m and 9.1m respectively). Low tides will be in the late afternoons.

Wednesday and Thursday

Weather

Winds, although mostly light, will make a noticeable change, veering to a NW’ly direction, bringing marginally cooler air but with beautifully crisp visibility. The south and east coasts will really offer the finest conditions for beachgoers. However, there is still the chance of catching one or two showers, especially in the mornings and the evenings, so it would be a good idea to check the Channel Islands Weather Radar before you head out, or before you peg your washing on the line.

Surf and the Water

Yet more flatness for surfers I’m afraid. As for the finest swimming conditions; well they will certainly be along the southern and eastern beaches. High tides will be in the late mornings (8.6m and 8m respectively). Low tides will be in the late afternoons.

Friday and the Weekend

Weather

Very uncertain whether these days will have any showers, and if so then how much rainfall they might produce. However, we can be certain that, with a light to moderate W’ly airflow throughout, we will maintain the very average August temperatures (daily maxima in the low 20s) and that Town will always be a degree or two warmer than the rest of the island.

Surf and the Water

There are some hints of a slight improvement in the surf conditions, picking up from flat to a rather sloppy 2-3 feet. Furthermore, the tidal range will be very small, so there will be many surfable hours on either side of the lunchtime highs. As for the swimming conditions, they will definitely be best along the east coast, especially in the Bordeaux area around lunchtime.

The next forecast update will be on Tuesday evening…
