Friday
Weather
The mist and drizzle should only last until mid-morning. By 10am the wind will have changed from the fresh force 5 WSW’ly to a light force 3 NW’ly. The rest of the morning should then feel much more pleasant, but it might not be until lunchtime or a little later before the sunshine really starts to blaze. After that, gorgeous clear skies right through until Saturday morning. Max temp 21-22°C. Min temp 15°C.
Surf and the Water
The mushy west-coast surf should be just about rideable in the morning (1-2 feet). Then, in the afternoon, it won’t get any bigger but it might just become a little stronger with the first pulse of Saturday’s swell. And if it’s shelter and smoothness your after for a pleasant sea-swim, then it will be best along the south coast in the morning and then along the east coast in the afternoon. High water will be roughly 7.4m around midday.
Saturday
Weather
A weak weather front could bring a spot of light rain in the morning but it will most likely just give us a little cloud. We should return to sunny skies for the majority of the afternoon though. Winds will be force 3 to 4 W’ly, meaning that Town will be the warmest area by at last a degree… max temp 20-21°C. Min temp 15°C.
Surf and the Water
A strong swell (relative to the recent mush) but still only a modest 3 feet or so. Winds will be onshore but they will be pretty light so the waves will be reasonably clean. Furthermore, the tiny tidal movements will mean that are more waves in more locations over more hours, so there should be plenty to share around the hungry hoard. High tide will be just 6.8m at roughly 1pm.
Sunday
Weather
High cloud and hazy sunshine in the morning, but that cloud will gradually thicken and lower through rest of the day, as the force 3-4 wind backs from a W’ly direction to a warmer S’ly direction. This might mean that Sunday is the cloudiest day of the weekend, but only by a whisker and there probably won’t be any rain until evening time, or perhaps even as late as midnight. Max temps will be around 23°C. Min temps will be around 17 or 18°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will certainly be much cleaner but it only be 1-2 feet, so the longboarders should be sliding nicely but the shortboarders will really struggle to find any satisfaction. Swimmers will find lovely smooth water all around the island, except perhaps along the slightly choppy south coast. High water will be just a miniscule 6.5m shortly after 2pm.
Next Week
Weather
It looks as though we should see rising pressure, maintaining max temperatures in the mid-20s. Through the first half of the week, when the wind will be mostly light and coming from a W’ly direction, whilst the weather is a mixed bag cloud, sunshine and isolated (perhaps heavy) showers. Through the second half of the week, the wind will change to a moderate NE’ly and this will probably mean that our weather is dominated by dryness and sunshine.
Surf and the Water
It looks as though we should maintain some small surf throughout the week (never less than 1 foot, never more than 3 feet). The first half of the week will most likely be choppy and sloppy, but the second half of the week looks likely to be both cleaner and stronger. Small tidal movements in the first half of the week, medium-large tidal movements in the second half.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday…
