Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 21 August 2022

Monday

Weather

A very grey and fuzzy day, with mist in most places and thicker fog on southern and western slopes as well as in the higher Parishes. It’s going to be damp for a lot of the time too, with some lengthy spells of drizzle and occasional bursts of heavier rain. So yes, it’s not the finest of summer days but at least it won’t feel too cold, with temperatures hovering between 17 and 20 degrees both day and the night. As for the wind, that will be a force 3-4 SW’ly, so Town will be comfortably sheltered throughout.

Surf and the Water

The mushy west-coast surf should be 2 feet and rideable. It’s definitely going to be weak though, so better use your most chunky and volumous board. Swimming conditions will be best along the east coast, especially in the afternoon. Low water will be at 9:30am. High water will be just a tiny 6.6m around 4pm.

Tuesday

Monday’s murkiness will linger into Tuesday at least until late morning, possibly early afternoon. It will become sunny after that though, allowing temperatures to climb a couple of degrees higher, and the SW’ly winds will be quite a bit lighter so it should feel really pleasant in all parts. Overnight, mist or fog patches will probably return, but they shouldn’t last into Wednesday it will certainly stay dry.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will still be 2 feet and weak, but it should be a good deal cleaner than on Monday. Swimming conditions will still be best along the east coast, but the other coasts should be much improved too. Low water will be around 11am. High water will still be on the small side… 7.1m around 5pm.

Wednesday to Friday

Weather

These three days should all be dry and mostly sunny, with just a few cloudy spells in the mornings, especially on Wednesday. The breeze will be a very light WSW’ly on Wednesday, allowing temperatures to climb into the mid 20s. Thursday and Friday will have a moderate N’ly breeze, which will keep temperatures from rising any higher than the low 20s, but those days will probably be the sunniest and the south coast will feel particularly lovely.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will still be 3 feet… perhaps clean at times but ruined by the cross-shore wind for much of the time I’m afraid. Swimming conditions will be best along the south coast, and the tidal range will be increasing, making the beaches a bit bigger and sandier around the lows. Those lows will generally be around lunchtime, and the highs will be around breakfast time and dinner time.

The Weekend

Weather

Another couple of dry and sunny ones. This time the wind will be NE’ly (maybe even E’ly by the end of Sunday), so this will bring warmer continental air to the islands, taking the temperatures firmly into the mid 20s. Once again, it will be the south coast that will feel particularly nice, and it will possibly feel just as lovely on the west coast on Sunday.

Surf and the Water

I’m afraid the greatest surf I can promise is only 1-2 feet and very week. We should still have some lovely swimming conditions along the south coast, especially between lunchtime until late afternoon, when the tides are low.

The next forecast update will be on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning…
