Ten day Guernsey weather forecast for 24 August 2022

Wednesday

Weather

A simple day, because there will be no rain and virtually no wind… so it’s simply about the gradual transition from the cloudy start to the sunny finish. Chances are that the cloud will linger well into the afternoon, so it probably won’t be until around 3 or 4pm that the sun really starts to blaze down upon us. With that, we are probably looking at a late afternoon max of 23°C and that heat will linger well into the evening, making it perfect for beach gatherings at the end of the working day. Then, after sunset, some thundery showers will wander up from Brittany to Normandy. There’s only an outside chance of them actually falling on Guernsey, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we get to enjoy a few flashes and rumbles on the southern and eastern horizons.

Surf and the Water

Whatever rideable ripples there are (probably 1 foot gradually picking up to 2 feet) will be gorgeously glassy and clean, even if they are very weak. With such light winds you will also find that all coasts are equally smooth for swimming and kayaking etc, so you should basically go to your favourite/most convenient spot, providing that the tide is right. Low water will be around midday (3.4m) and high tide will be around 6pm (7.6m).

Thursday and Friday

Wednesday night’s high humidity and nearby showers will have left us with cloudy skies and perhaps some fog banks around the islands. The sunshine will soon burn this away though, with a little help from the force 3 to 4 NW’ly breeze. We should then be looking at sunny skies by day and starry skies by night, right through to the weekend. That breeze will take the edge off the heat though, so we will find that most places only peak at 21-22°C. However, the south coast and much of the east coast (especially Town) will probably climb to 23°C and they will feel much warmer due to their shelter.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf might be a foot bigger than the previous days, especially on Thursday evening and on Friday morning. However, it will be much more choppy, so it won’t be anything to get too excited about, just a bit of a mess about really. As for the swimming conditions; they will certainly be best along the east coast for the breakfast and dinner time high tides; and they will be best along the south coast for the lunchtime low tides.

The Weekend

Weather

Another couple of dry and sunny ones. This time the wind will be a moderate NE’ly though, so this will bring a slightly warmer continental influence to the islands, taking the max temperatures up by about half a degree per day, meaning that we should be hitting 24°C quite widely on Sunday. Once again, it will be the south coast that will feel particularly nice and the tides will be just right to enjoy those beaches at the warmest time of day.

Surf and the Water

I’m afraid the greatest surf I can promise is only 2 feet and rather week, but it should at least be rideable, especially during the late afternoons. As for the swimming conditions, they will definitely be best along the south coast, especially between lunchtime until mid-afternoon, when the tides will be very low.

Next Week

Weather

As we hang on to the NE’ly airflow (quite brisk in the first half of the week, but much more mellow in the second), we should maintain dry conditions for the vast majority of the week, with a good amount of brightness or sunshine by day, and only the outside chance of an overnight shower drifting up from France at times. Max temps should be in the mid-twenties every day, which should certainly make for a very fun and active week to finish the school holidays. Enjoy!

Surf and the Water

Much like the previous week, we should maintain some very small but rideable waves on most days, providing you are a very light-weight person or you have a very high volume surfboard. The swimming conditions will generally be best along the south coast again. However, if winds fall light enough in the second half of the week then the other coasts should all become pretty smooth as well. Tides will be high in the mornings and low in the afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
