Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 27 August 2022

Saturday

Weather

The patchy cloud that came along towards the end of Friday will linger into Saturday morning before burning off and leaving us with sunny perfection. The morning will get off to a chilly start with barely a breath of wind, but the late morning sunshine will really start to power things up and we should reacha top temp of 22-23°C. It won’t just be the temperature that pick up though, because the wind will also increase from a force 2 ENE’ly to a force 4 NNE’ly. Therefore, after a morning that feels lovely in all parts, it will be the south coast that really feels most comfortable in the afternoon.

Surf and the Water

Super clean waves in the morning but rather tiny and weak (hopefully still worth a quick go on the longboard). Moving into the afternoon, the waves will get messier without getting any larger, so it will be much better to simply go for a swim on the sheltered south coast at that time. High tide will be around breakfast time and dusk (8.1m and 8.5m respectively). Low water will be at roughly 2pm.

Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday

With a lot of high cloud in the sky, we will see some gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, maybe some pretty parhelia and halos etc, but the sunshine will generally be a bit muted compared to Saturday. Sunday will be about as breezy as Saturday afternoon became (force 4 ENE’ly). Then Monday will really feel a bit blustery as the ENE’ly picks up to fresh force 5. It will be a rather warm wind though, coming from nearby Europe, so temperatures should be at least as high as on Saturday, probably a degree higher actually.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf should be a little stronger and more consistent than on Saturday but I’m afraid it’s still only going to be about 1-2 feet at best, so a longboard slide is all you can hope for really, no chance of any shortboard shredding. Swimming conditions will generally be best along the south and west coasts, especially around high tide when the water should be more sheltered. Those highs will be around breakfast time and soon after dusk (size-wise they will all be pretty close to 9m).

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather

These days will be pretty much like Sunday and Monday in reverse. In other words the wind will wind down from a fresh force 5 to a moderate force 4 ENE’ly, but the weather story will simply be dryness and hazy sunshine. Temperatures will be very slightly lower though, probably peaking at 22°C each day.

Surf and the Water

Flat surf but lovely swimming conditions down on the south-coast beaches. High tides will be in the mid-mornings (just shy of 9m) and low tides will be in the mid-afternoons.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

The sunshine will be brighter and the wind will be lighter. Both these things should lead to higher temperatures, but the wind direction will be N’ly on Thursday and NW’ly on Friday, so that will balance things out by wafting some slightly cooler air over the Channel. The net effect will be that we continue to peak around 22°C each day. The nights will certainly be a bit cooler though, dropping from min temps of 16-17°C in the first half of the week to 13-14°C in the second.

Surf and the Water

Another couple of days with flat surf but lovely swimming conditions down on the south-coast beaches. High tides will be in the late mornings (8.5m and 8.2m respectively) and low tides will be in the late afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Monday morning…
