Bank Holiday Monday
Weather
With a bit less high cloud in the sky than on Sunday, we should enjoy brighter sunshine on this day. However, this will be counterbalanced by an increase in wind strength, with the ENE’ly increasing from force 4 in the morning to force 5 in the afternoon and possibly even force 6 during the night time. On balance, temperatures will be much the same, peaking around 22°C in the afternoon and falling to a minimum of 17°C overnight.
Surf and the Water
Too windy for paddle boarding but just right for windsurfing and kite-surfing. As for the surf, the 1-2 foot swell will really have to battle against the strong cross-offshore winds so it’s doubtful that any surfers will manage a decent session. Maybe through high water (roughly of 9m at breakfast time and dusk) some kids could ride the straight handers at the Fort Hommet end of Vazon Bay, but that’s about all I can suggest really. Swimmers will also want to focus on high tide, so they can find a little near-shore shelter along the south and west coasts.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
Tuesday will be more or less as windy as Monday, then Wednesday will just ease off a little (becoming a force 4 NE’ly) but it will still be a little bit irritating to be honest, considering that everything else about the water will be glorious. Tuesday’s sunshine will be particularly bright, so sun-cream will be extra important. Wednesday will have quite a lot of high cloud, meaning that the sunshine will be rather muted (much like it was on Sunday). Max temps 22°C on Tuesday and 21°C on Wednesday. Min temps 17°C on both nights.
Surf and the Water
Flat surf but lovely windsurfing/kite-surfing conditions. Once again the swimming will be relatively smooth, so long as you find a sheltered nook, so we are probably looking at high tide along the south coast or at a few spots along the west coast. Those highs will be roughly 9m in the mid-mornings. Low water will be in the mid-afternoons.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
This is looking like the shower end of the week, which could certainly be good news, because the island is still very thirsty, but it might soak your laundry or play spoiler to a few of your activities. That said, showers are hit and miss, so it’s all very uncertain. The chance of showers will be fairly low through Thursday but it will be much higher on Friday. To balance this out, the wind will be on the decrease, falling to a light force 3 NE’ly on Thursday and then to gorgeously light and variable force 2 on Friday. Max temps 22°C on both days, min temps 16°C on Thursday night and 14°C on Friday night.
Surf and the Water
Another couple of flat surf days. We will have lovely swimming conditions though, best along the south-coast on Thursday, but then at all beaches on Friday. High tides will be in the late mornings (8.5m and 8.2m respectively) and low tides will be in the late afternoons.
The Weekend
The winds will stay beautifully light and they will bring relatively warm air as they will be wafting up from the south. The weather will be a bit of a mixed bag though, with skies being rather cloudy apart from just a few sunny intervals. We are in for a couple of doses of rain too, however the timing of these are very uncertain. Current expectations are for a dry Saturday, followed by a wet Saturday night and Sunday morning, then probably staying dry until the back end of Sunday night. Keep an eye on the updates though, because it’s highly likely that these timings will change.
Surf and the Water
The surf should be on the rise, thanks to the development of a perfectly located low pressure system (just southwest of Ireland). However, this low will not be particularly deep and it might be a bit late to provide surf for the weekend. My best estimate is that we will have clean 1 foot waves on Saturday, maybe increasing to 2-3 feet on Sunday if we are lucky, but we will most likely have to wait until the following week for anything bigger than that. High tides will be around midday (7.8m Saturday and 7.3m Sunday).
The next forecast update will be on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning…
