Thursday
Weather
Showers are always a bit hit-and-miss, but on this occasion there will be so many of them scattered across the area throughout the day and the night that we are bound to catch a few of them. This is obviously great news for our thirsty islands (furthermore, there is even a chance of some exciting flashes and rumbles!). However, there are bound to be a few sunshine lovers who are having a bit of a panic right now. Well, don’t worry folks because there will be plenty of bright or sunny spells in between the showers, and the NE’ly wind will be getting lighter through the day, gradually dropping from moderate force 4 to a very comfortable and light force 3. Max daytime temp 21-22°C. Min overnight temp 16-17°C.
Surf and the Water
Another day of absolute flatness to test the patience of the surfers. However, we do have plenty of lovely swimming and coasteering options, and the south coast will be particularly nice for these activities. High water will be around 8.5m at 10:22am and low water will be around 2.1m at 4:36pm.
Friday
Weather
Another day of sunshine and showers (possibly thundery). However, the difference with this day is that the winds will be very light and variable in direction. This firstly means that the showers might miss us altogether, because they could be so slow-moving that they rain themselves out before they reach us. Alternatively, if they do catch us, then their slowness to clear might mean that we get a more thorough drenching than we bargained for. I can’t offer any more certainty than that I’m afraid, so if you are having a laundry day then the trick will be to keep a sharp eye on the horizon and also to keep a check on the Channel Islands weather radar. Daytime max temp 21-22°C again. Overnight min temp 15-16°C.
Surf and the Water
Still flat in the surf department. However, the lightness of the wind will mean that the smooth water options, such as swimming and paddle-boarding, will extend to all of our beautiful coastline. High water will be around 8.2m at 10:56am and low water will be around 2.5m at 5:11pm.
The Weekend
Weather
Cloudy but dry for the most part. However, the chances of a brief but heavy shower will increase through Saturday night and Sunday. Also increasing will be the strength of the wind… light force 3 S’ly on Saturday, increasing to a moderate F4 SE’ly overnight, then gradually picking up to fresh force 5 by the end of Sunday. With this wind direction, it certainly won’t be a cold weekend if if we don’t see a lot of sunshine. Daytime maxima should be 22°C and overnight minima will be around 16-17°C.
Surf and the Water
A great wind direction for the west coast. If swimming or paddle-boarding then it will be best to get in soon on Saturday, whilst winds are light. If surfing or windsurfing then it will be best to wait until the latter part of the weekend, when the wave heights should become a consistent 3 feet. Relatively small tides, with highs of 7.8m at 11:38am on Saturday and then 7.3m at 12:34pm on Sunday.
Next Week
A generally unsettled week, with most days seeing a portion of sunshine as well as a few showers or a longer spell of rain. Winds will generally be moderate or fresh SSW’ly in the first half of the week and then light WSW’ly in the second half. This should lead to daily max temps of 20-22°C and nightly min temps of 15-17°C.
Surf and the Water
A long-awaited full week of decent surf. Never larger than 6 feet, but never smaller than 3 feet, and with a cross-offshore wind of varying strength it will generally be clean at all the favourite west-coast spots. Small tides in the first half of the week will mean lots of options, especially in the afternoons during the top half of those tides. A little more restrictive in the second half of the week though, with bigger tidal movements and highs around dawn and dinner time.
The next forecast update will be on Friday evening or Saturday morning…
