Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 03 September 2022

Saturday

Weather

A generally cloudy day, especially in the morning when that cloud will be quite low and grey, with the chance of a drizzly shower here and there. The afternoon cloud will be much higher though, which does mean plenty of hazy sunshine will filter through and brighten things up significantly. Whilst all that’s happening, our winds will be lovely and light (force 2-3), SW’ly in the morning and SE’ly in the afternoon. Max temp by day 21-22°C. Min temp by night 15-16°C.

Surf and the Water

Just the tiniest chance of a clean wave for longboarders in the afternoon and evening. More certain however, is that we will have lovely conditions for swimming, paddle-boarding, kayaking and coasteering. All coasts should be fairly smooth, but the west and north coasts will be best of all. High water will be 7.8m at roughly 11:40am, low water will be 3m at roughly 6pm.

Sunday

Weather

Carrying on from Saturday afternoon, we will have a SSE’ly airflow, which will bring generally cloudy skies and a max temp 21-22°C. That cloud will possibly thicken up to give a light shower at times, but it’s also likely to become thin enough for some spells of hazy sunshine. The main difference from Saturday is that the wind will be quite a bit stronger (moderate force 4 to fresh force 5), so it will be best to find some shelter in order to feel warmest.

Surf and the Water

Clean 1-2 foot waves for west-coast surfing. Some reasonable wind for kite-surfing and windsurfing too. High water will be the best time for swimmers to find a bit of shelter, especially on the north and west coasts, and that high will be 7.3m at roughly 12:30pm.

Monday to Wednesday

Weather

The S’ly wind will stick around, generally moderate force 4, but often freshening up to force 5 and just occasionally giving respite as it drops off to light force 3. The air will generally be quite warm and humid, so the daily max temps of 21-22°C will continue, and the weather will be a mixture of sunny spells and occasional heavy showers drifting across the Channel from France. Currently Wednesday looks set to be the wettest day (possibly 10-20mm), so maybe try to get your laundry done on Monday or Tuesday.

Surf and the Water

Clean 3 foot waves for the majority of the time, although there will be a bit of a 4-5 foot spike on Monday afternoon/evening and early Tuesday morning. Small tidal movements so plenty of options, especially in the afternoons during the top half of those tides. As for other activities on the water, well there should certainly be some good windsurfing and kite-surfing, but it will be a bit breezy for swimming, so it will be best to aim for the high tides to find the maximum shelter.

Thursday and Friday

This is the uncertain end of the forecast, but it’s looking as though it will most likely stay unsettled and actually turn a little bit cooler. Thursday will probably see the strong S’ly wind veery to a W’ly direction and then Friday will see it veer further to a NW’ly. Wednesday will probably have the least sunshine and the most rain, then Friday will probably have long stretches of bright sky or sunshine, just punctuated by one or two brief but heavy showers. Max temps 19-20°C on both days (maybe 21°C in Town, at a push).

Surf and the Water

The surf will just start to crank into the 6 foot range, as the wind veers to a less favourable direction. However, there will still be some chunky onshore fun to be had along the west coast and then the south coast will become lovely and clean for some novelty gems on Friday. As for the swimming, the east coast will consistently be best for that. Low tides will be at lunchtime and the highs will be around dawn and dinner time, increasing from 8m on Thursday morning to 9.3m on Friday evening.

The next forecast update will be on Monday…
