Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 06 September 2022

Tuesday

Weather

We are in for another day of sunshine and showers, with some of those showers likely to be thundery and certainly quite squally, as the S’ly wind steps up to fresh force 5 and the gusts get up to 30mph. The max daytime temperature should be 21°C, which is a couple of degrees less than on Monday. Then overnight, much drier but still breezy and the minimum temperature should be about 16°C.

Surf and the Water

Clean 4-5 foot surf along the west coast and, with small tides there should be a lot of options through the day. Winds could be good for windsurfers and kite-surfers, but swimmers will probably want to look for shelter, so the hours around high tide (7.2m at 3:50pm) will be best for that.

Wednesday

Weather

This day will be almost like Tuesday on repeat, but the showers or thunderstorms will be more concentrated in the second half of the day and through the night time. The winds will be SSW’ly moderate force 4 to fresh force 5, maybe even stronger during the night time. The temperatures once again peaking around 21°C early afternoon and falling to an overnight minimum of 16°C.

Surf and the Water

Clean 4-5 foot surf again, with slightly bigger tides meaning that the breakfast time and dinner time sessions will probably be best. Winds should be good for windsurfers and kite-surfers again, and the swimmers will probably want to shoot for the better shelter available around high tide (7.9m at 5:10pm) will be best for that.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Thursday will start with a moderate to fresh SW’ly wind and it will finish off with a W’ly. Whilst this happens, we will remain in the firing line of many showers, but the showers will likely be much briefer than the previous few days, whistling through quickly to leave us with temporary rainbow and then much more lengthy sunny periods. Friday much the same, at least in the morning, then most likely bone dry from lunchtime onward. The temperatures will be lower than previous days though… daytime maxima just 20°C and night time minima just 15°C.

Surf and the Water

The surf will increase to 5-6 feet but it will be much choppier as the wind turns to a cross-onshore direction. The windsurfing and kite-surfing will be fantastic though, and the swimming conditions will be good in sheltered eastern bays like Fermain. Low tides will be at lunchtime and the highs will be around dawn and dinner time, increasing from 8m on Thursday morning to 9.3m on Friday evening.

The Weekend

The dry weather of Friday afternoon should carry on through the weekend, and it should start to feel warmer, as the sun blazes through Saturday and the W’ly wind will falls lovely and light. Sunday will then be cloudier but the moderate SE’ly breeze will bring us some warm French air, taking the temperature back up to a healthy 22°C.

Surf and the Water

The first swell from Hurricane Danielle should arrive on Saturday and continue through Sunday. In the usual way with swells that have travelled such a long distance, the waves will be very powerful for their size (3-5ft), causing long lulls punctuated by big surges on the beaches, and creating great conditions for experts on the various reefs. The tides will be getting very large we move into the full moon of the Autumnal Equinox… lows in the early afternoons and highs of 9.8m at 7:40pm on Saturday, then 10m at 8:20pm on Sunday.

The next forecast update will be on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning…
