Wednesday and Thursday
Weather
The winds will remain very light but they will switch direction to an ESE’ly on Wednesday and then a SSE’ly on Thursday, encouraging some slightly warmer air to waft over from France. Skies will be mostly sunny, with just the odd puff of cloud here and there. Max temps will be around 20°C on both days and min temps will be around 12-13°C on both nights.
Surf and the Water
The surf will probably jump up to 2 or 3 feet (nothing special in the grand scheme but definitely clean and much more rideable than the previous days). As for the swimming conditions, they will be best along the west and north coasts, but the other coasts will be almost as lovely, especially on Wednesday, when the wind is lightest. The tidal range will start to get larger again, with late afternoon/early evening highs of 6.9m on Wednesday, and 7.6m on Thursday.
Friday and the Weekend
Weather
All three days will be wet at times. Friday and Sunday will only have isolated showers but Saturday’s showers will probably be more frequent and prolonged. Of the three days, Friday is probably the one to take advantage of, because, despite being very cloudy, the SW’ly wind will be really light and the air still relatively warm (max 19°C). Saturday and Sunday will both be much windier (force 4-5 NE’ly) and the temperature will be on the downward slide, with a probable max of 18°C on Saturday and just 17°C on Sunday. To find the most pleasant weekend sunshine, it will probably be best to head to the south coast on Sunday.
Surf and the Water
The surf should still be 2-3 feet and clean on Friday, so don’t waste it, because it will be both smaller and much messier through Saturday and Sunday. Those rougher days will be great for windsurfing and kitesurfing though. And if it’s swimming you’re interested in, then all coasts will be good on Friday, but you will certainly need the shelter of the south coast through the weekend, and that will tie in nicely with the increasing tidal-range.
Next Week
Weather
Monday and Tuesday look particularly windy (fresh F5 to strong F6 and gusty), coming from a W’ly direction on Monday and a NW’ly on Tuesday, so Town will always be the most sheltered area. The rest of the week will have a slightly more relaxed W’ly wind (moderate force 4). These winds will be fairly unpleasant in themselves, but the weather won’t be all bad… certainly some showers and a couple of longer spells of rain, but plenty of brightness or sunshine to break those episodes apart. Daily max temperatures will be between 16 and 18°C, nightly min temps will be between 10 and 13°C, so feeling decidedly autumnal but certainly not requiring the central heating just yet.
Surf and the Water
The surf should be big enough to ride every day, but it is looking messy throughout the week, especially on Monday and Tuesday. This will obviously be good for windsurfing and kitesurfing though. The tides will be fairly big surrounding the new moon of the equinox. Not quite as big as they were a couple of weeks ago around the full moon, but still achieving daily highs of over 9m (Monday to Thursday) around breakfast time and soon after dusk.
The next forecast update will be on Friday…
