Friday and Saturday
Weather
These two will have some sunny spells but they will be mostly cloudy, because the weather will be dominated by a deep low-pressure system, whose centre will be between Iceland and Scotland, but whose influence will extend all the way into Northern France. Friday will see a strengthening SW’ly wind… light force 2-3 at dawn, but strong force 6-7 by dusk. The rain will set in mid-afternoon and then it will clear off around midnight, which is also when the wind will veer W’ly. Through Saturday, that W’ly wind will be moderate force 4 to fresh force 5, but there will be stronger gusts if any showers sweep through. moving into the evening, the wind will drop off but the shower risk will be replaced by more persistent mist and drizzle. Town will always be warmest, possibly getting up to 19°C, whilst most other places top out at 17-18°C.
Surf and the Water
Friday’s surf will be 1-3 feet and fairly clean, then Saturday’s surf will be 5-6 feet and much messier. Both days will be great for kite-surfing and windsurfing on the west and north coasts, but swimmers who are looking for shelter will really need to hit the east coast. Friday’s tides will be 8.9m high at 9:57am and 2m low at 4:15pm. Saturday’s tides will be 8.4m high at 10:33am and 2.4m low at 4:51pm.
Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
Weather
We might still have some showers lingering through the first half of Sunday, but then high pressure will bring lovely dry and settled weather through the rest of this period. Skies will be a mix of cloud and sunshine, but the airflow will be consistently mild, leading to daily max temperatures of 18°C in most areas and probably 19°C in Town. Nightly minima will probably be 12-13°C, but if clear skies are prolonged then they could drop down to 11°C or maybe even 10°C (which is still about 4-5°C too warm to be even thinking about ground-frost).
Surf and the Water
Clean surf through the majority of these three days… 4-5 foot and a bit choppy on Sunday, 3-4 feet and fairly clean on Monday, then 1-3 feet and absolutely pristine on Tuesday. Great swimming conditions, especially along the east coast on Sunday, then all around the island on Monday and Tuesday. High water will generally be around midday… 7.7m on Sunday, 7.1m on Monday and 6.8m on Tuesday.
The Rest of Next Week
Weather
With the exception of a weak weather front on Wednesday, which might bring a little rain but most likely just a period of thicker cloud, this period should be dominated by sunny and settled weather. Once again, high pressure will be in charge of the weather, but the wind details will vary from day to day, as the high pressure centre shifts between the Land’s End area and the Brest area. Most of the time, the flow will be W’ly or NW’ly, only light so all parts should be comfortable. However, Town will always be that little bit warmer, with temperatures still managing to peak around 18-19°C there.
Surf and the Water
The surf should be reasonably clean through this period, because the wind will be mostly onshore but light, meaning that the 3-4 foot waves will be little lumpy but plenty of sections that will be steep enough for shortboarding. Swimmers will find the smoothest conditions along the east coast, but the rest of the island shouldn’t be very choppy enough, so there should be plenty of other options. Tides will be low in the late mornings and high in the late afternoons, increasing in size from 7.3m on Wednesday to 8.6m on Friday.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
