Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 02 October 2022

Monday

Weather

After Sunday morning’s grot cleared off, the skies were left with quite a lot of cloud but with enough decent breaks to let the sunshine through from time to time. Well that’s pretty much going to be the way it continues right through Monday. The air will be reasonable mild, picking up from around 12-13°C at dawn, to about 18-19°C in the early afternoon. Winds will be comfortably light for the most part, kicking off with a force 3-4 E’ly but quickly veering SE’ly and then relaxing to just force 2 for the majority of the afternoon.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean surf on the west coast (2-3 feet), and great swimming conditions in that part of the island too. During the afternoon, winds will be light enough that all coasts will be good for swimming, and likewise for paddle-boarding and kayaking too. High water will be just after midday (roughly 7.1m).

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather

Winds will step up to a force 4-5 SW’ly on Tuesday, but there will be no real change in weather. As such, temperatures should peak at 18-19°C again. The increase in wind will be due to an approaching weather front, but that won’t actually arrive and give us a downpour until sometime on Wednesday, most likely around late morning or lunchtime. Once that soggy weather front has cleared eastwards, we will be left with much brighter sunshine than we have seen for a good few days. However, the strong force 6 SW’ly wind will veer to a WNW’ly direction, so that sunshine isn’t going to feel especially lovely, unless you can find a really sheltered area like Town or Fermain.

Surf and the Water

Tuesday’s surf will only be 1-2 feet, but it will pick up to around 6 feet on Wednesday and it will at least be quite clean in the morning, before the weather front sweeps through and switches the wind from offshore to onshore. Low water will be soon after dawn on Tuesday and high water will be at 2pm (6.9m). Wednesday’s low water will be at 9:42am and high water will be at 3:49pm (7.3m).

Thursday and Friday

Weather

A couple of dry and mostly sunny days, with a merciful relaxation of the wind. Thursday will have a force 2-3 WSW’ly, then on Friday this will increase to force 3-4. The air won’t be as mild as it was before Wednesday’s weather front cleared through. However, we can thank the slightly cooler air for the much improved visibility and for the lack of cloud. Max temps will generally be around 16°C both days, but Town will benefit from maximum shelter as well as its obvious urban effects, so we should easily climb to 17°C there.

Surf and the Water

Semi-clean surf… big old lumps of water in the 4-6 foot range on Thursday, dropping off to a more regular 3-4 feet on Friday. Swimming conditions should be excellent on all coasts on Thursday, but particularly along the east coast and up at Pembroke on Friday. Low tides will be late mornings and high tides will be around 5pm on Thursday and 6pm on Friday (7.9m and 8.6m respectively).

The Weekend

Weather

Saturday will be just like Friday, with mostly sunny skies, tempered by a moderate force 4 W’ly wind. Sunday will then have a little give and take, because the wind will back to a SSE’ly direction and this will bring warmer air (with a max of 18°C as opposed to Saturdays 17°C). However, skies will become much cloudier as some heavy showers develop over France and the Channel, and the later we get into the day the more likely we are to catch one or two downpours.

Surf and the Water

Choppy 3 foot surf on Saturday, then clean 2 foot waves on Sunday. Low tides will be at lunchtime and high tides will be around dawn and dusk. Big tides… 8.9m increasing to 9.7m.

The next forecast update will be on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning…
