Saturday
Weather
Sunny skies and barely a breath of wind. Right at the centre of a little high pressure system, autumn weather doesn’t get much lovelier than this. The temperature won’t be particularly lofty (max 16-17°C), but it’s really going to feel lovely in every corner of the island. Enjoy!
Surf and the Water
Clean 4 foot surf on the west coast and maybe some rideable ripples on the south coast too. Swimming conditions will be fabulous on all coasts. The only people who might be a little bit frustrated are the kite-surfers and the windsurfers. High tides will be around dawn and dusk (8.8m and 9.2m respectively). Low water will be at lunchtime.
Sunday
Weather
With Saturday’s high pressure system having passed eastward, we will be in a slightly warmer SSE’ly airflow, but there will be a bit of give and take… whilst the mercury should climb to a max of 18°C, the breeze will be moderate force 4 and the skies will gradually become cloudy as the day progresses. This might mean that Saturday is actually the more comfortable day, but at least Sunday will be totally dry, and it will certainly be an outstanding day for drying a few laundry loads.
Surf and the Water
Windsurfers and kite-surfers will be a bit luckier on this day, because the morning should at least offer enough wind to keep them amused. Swimming and surfing will all be best along the west coast, although the waves will only be 2-3 feet on the biggest sets. High tides will be around dawn and dusk again (9.3m and 9.7m this time). Low water will be at lunchtime again.
Monday and Tuesday
Weather
This will be the dry end of the week. We will wake up to wet ground after a little rainfall on Sunday night. But that will be gone and then Monday and Tuesday will basically be an alternation of sunny periods and cloudy spells. On Monday, the sunny periods will be much longer than the cloudy spells, but this will be moderated by a fresh force 5 NNE’ly wind. Tuesday will be the reverse, with the cloudy spells taking the lions’ share of the day, but the light force 2 to 3 ENE’ly breeze will feel much more comfortable. The max temperature should be about 17°C on both days.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be about 2 feet on both days, but it will be a totally useless mess on Monday, as opposed to Tuesday when it should be clean and very rideable. Monday will be the best day for windsurfing and kite-surfing, then Tuesday will be the best day for swimming. If you are keen to swim on Monday then the south coast will really be the place to go. High tides will be around breakfast time (9.6m both days), low tides will be in the early afternoons.
The Rest of Next Week
Weather
It seems that on each of these three days another low-pressure system will sweep from the mid-Atlantic towards Norway, drilling northwest Britain with some heavy downpours and some strong to gale force winds. The Channel Islands will only see a very small portion of that action, starting with a few showers on Wednesday, as the wind establishes a SSW’ly and gradually strengthens, reaching moderate force 4 to fresh force 5 in the evening. Thursday is looking dry at the moment, with just a gentle force 3 W’ly wind. Friday is possibly going to be the roughest day for us, as a rain-laden weather front becomes aligned with the SW’ly flow and then becomes stuck over the same part of the Channel for the entire day. At the moment, it’s uncertain, whether that will be right overhead or maybe further south, around Jersey and the French coast. Watch this space to see how the story evolves.
Surf and the Water
The surf should be clean for the majority of this time (maybe a bit choppy on Thursday morning though). The wave size is very uncertain at the moment, but it will probably start off around 2 feet on Wednesday and then gradually increase in size and power through Thursday and Friday, as we start to reap the benefit of those vigorous low pressure systems to the northwest. Tides will be high in the mid-mornings and low in the late afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
