Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 28 October 2022

Saturday

Weather

So many days with very little change from the day before! I’m not really complaining though, because there hasn’t been the remotest need to even think about the central heating. However, it does get on my nerves every evening when the temperature makes me feel as though it should be staying light for another couple of hours. Speaking of which… it’s clock change night, so get ready for prolonged dark evenings until we return to the magical BST in 23. Anyway, back to the weather… a mixture of cloudy skies and hazy sunshine through the daytime, and then some brief but possibly heavy showers in the evening. Winds will be moderate force 4 SSE’ly, perhaps briefly fresh force 5 in the morning, taking the temperature to a max of 18-19°C in the afternoon and then a minimum of 13-14°C during the night time.

Surf and the Water

The surf should be 2-3 feet and clean, and the windsurfing conditions should be quite good, especially in the morning. Swimmers will find the loveliest conditions along the west and north coasts around high tide, when the greatest shelter is provided. High water will be about 9m at 9:40am and low water will be around 1.8m at 4pm.

Sunday

Weather

Temperatures peaking around 17°C on this day (maybe 18°C in Town), as the wind veers to a fresh force 5 SSW’ly. The difference will be barely noticeable to be honest, as the skies will still be a mixed bag of cloudy spells and hazy sunshine. There is a good chance that we will stay dry throughout, but if we do catch a shower then the timing will be slightly different from on Saturday, with the daytime (especially lunchtime) carrying a greater likelihood than the night time.

Surf and the Water

The surf should be 2-3 feet and clean again, and the windsurfing conditions should be a little better than on Saturday. Swimmers will find the best conditions around high tide again, when the greatest shelter is provided (the east coast will be slightly better on this day too). High water will be about 8.6m at 9:20am and low water will be around 2.4m at 3:45pm.

Monday and Tuesd0ay

Weather

The first two days of a generally more unsettled week than the previous. Along with this, there will be slight downward slide in the temperature, with daily maxima of 16-17°C and nightly minima of around 12°C. To add a little detail to that unsettled weather now… Monday will have a fresh force 5 SSE’ly wind with a few showers towards the end of the day, then the wind will increase to a strong force 6 to 7 SW’ly on Monday night, as a band of heavier rain crosses the islands (good luck keeping your pumpkins lit). Tuesday will then have a mostly dry morning, maybe with a slight reduction in the wind. However, that wind will certainly be back up to strong force 6 or 7, as it veers WSW’ly through the evening and night. Furthermore, the showers are likely to be frequent and heavy, so those overnight winds will be particularly gusty and noisy.

Surf and the Water

The waves will be clean enough along the west coast, but the stronger cross-offshore wind will make it particularly great for windsurfers and particularly difficult for regular wave-riders. Wave heights will likely be 3-4 feet on Monday, picking up to 6 feet by the end of Tuesday. Tides will be high in the late mornings (roughly 8m and 7.5m respectively).

The Rest of Next week

Weather

Sunny spells will be punctuated by showers or longer spells of rain. If there’s one day when the sunshine will be more prolonged then it is Thursday. However, the air will be inherently cooler on that day, so the max temp won’t be any higher than the other days (generally 15-16°C, possibly just a little warmer in Town). Winds are expected to be strong force 6-7 SW’ly on Wednesday, fresh force 5 W’ly on Thursday, then moderate force 4 SW’ly on Friday.

Surf and the Water

Wednesday stands out as the best windsurfing day, although Thursday won’t be too bad either. Wednesday and Friday will have the cleanest surf conditions, especially Friday, and the waves will be pretty big (6-8 feet), so there should be plenty of action for experienced surfers, whilst the beginners/intermediates will have to seek shelter or possibly just give it a miss. Tides will be high in the afternoons (roughly 7.3m, 7.5m and 8.2m respectively).

The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
