Wednesday
Weather
Dry through daylight hours, with some sunshine in the morning and perhaps in the early afternoon. Cloud will really thicken towards dusk though, as we head into a showery evening, with those showers becoming prolonged and heavy overnight. Wind-wise, we will have a force 4-5 SSW’ly in the morning, increasing strong force 6 in the afternoon. That wind’s not going to feel especially warm but the max temp (16°C) is still on the high side for early November.
Surf and the Water
Clean 6 foot surf and great windsurfing conditions too. The tidal movements will be small, with a high of just 7.2m around 1pm. That’s when the sea walls will offer the most shelter, so that’s when it will be best for swimmers to take a dip, mainly down at Fermain or up at Pembroke, but also at some of the more sheltered west-coast nooks.
Thursday
Weather
A very wet morning, with 15-20mm of rainfall likely to fall between the small hours and lunchtime. Then we are also in for some heavy showers in the late afternoon and evening, which could give us a further 10mm. If there is going to be any sunshine then it will only be for a brief spell around lunchtime and early afternoon, so be sure to make the most of that, especially as the wind will only be a moderate force 4 W’ly. Max temp 14°C.
Surf and the Water
Slightly choppy (not too bad really) 6-8 foot west-coast surf. Lots of power in those waves, maybe enough to push them onto the favourite north-coast spots. As for the swimming, that will definitely be best along the east coast, and the brief moment of brighter weather is expected to coincide nicely with high tide… roughly 7.6m around 2:30pm.
Friday and the Weekend
Weather
Very cool air on Friday, with a NNW’ly wind (strong force 6 at first, relaxing to moderate force 4 by the afternoon). However, there will be plenty of sunshine and it should stay mostly dry, so this will probably result in the same max of 14°C as on Thursday. Moving on to the weekend, we will have fresh to strong SSW’ly winds on Saturday, veering WSW’ly on Sunday. There will be quite a lot of showery rain but the majority of it will fall overnight Saturday into Sunday, so there is a good chance of some finer and drier conditions, especially on Saturday morning and on Sunday afternoon. As for the temperature, that will make a slight recovery, picking up to a max of 15-16°C on both days.
Surf and the Water
Friday will have very big and messy waves on the west coast, but they will be beautifully clean on the south coast, and the swell should easily be strong enough to deliver some waist to shoulder high waves down there. Moving on to the weekend, the surf will be a much more typical west-coast affair… small and friendly on Saturday (around 3 feet and clean), then big and very powerful on Sunday (around 8 feet on the west coast and 3-4 feet on the north).
Next Week
Weather
S’ly winds will bring mild air on most days, so we can expect the max temps to generally be around 16°C and the min temps generally around 12°C. Those winds will often be moderate to fresh but generally not strong or gale force like we have seen recently. Likewise, there will be some rain or showers in the area on most days, but dry weather and brighter skies will tend to dominate.
Surf and the Water
Clean 3-5 feet surf on most days. Big tidal movements though, with lows around lunchtime and highs of over 9m on most mornings and evenings.
The next forecast update will be on Friday…
