Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 06 November 2022

Monday

Weather

A mostly cloudy day but with plenty of dry time. Not entirely dry though… a few light drizzly showers in the morning and maybe lunchtime, then some much heavier showers through the night time period. Winds will be very strong too… SSW’ly force 6 to 7 during the daytime then backing SSE’ly and increasing gale force 8 for a time in the night. Rough yes, but not cold. Max temps will be 15-16°C., min temps only 13°C.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be massive, powerful and clean… 8-10 feet on the west coast in the morning, 3-6 feet on the north coast, with all areas just reducing slightly in the afternoon. Between the swell and the tides, the currents will be strong and dangerous to inexperienced water users, but obviously the conditions will be exceptionally good for are highly competent surfers and windsurfers. Swimmers will probably find their best conditions at Fermain or Havelet. Tides will be high at 5:30am (9.2m) and at 5:50pm (9.4m) and we can expect plenty of water and debris to spill onto the west-coast roads around those times.

Tuesday

Weather

Frequent showers, some of them heavy, all blasted through the area by a force 6 to 7 SSW’ly wind, much like the previous day. However, rather than getting even stronger through the night time, we should see a gradual change to a force 5-6 WSW’ly. Temperatures once again peaking around 16°C by day and falling to around 13°C. overnight.

Surf and the Water

Another day of very big and clean surf, perhaps not with quite such power as on Monday, but still best left to the experts really. Once again, it will really be an east-coast affair for swimmers. High tides at 6:10am and 6:30pm (both around 9.4m, and both very splashy on the west-coast roads again).

Wednesday to Friday

Weather

Wednesday will be an improving day, with sunshine and showers, but the showers confined to the morning and the sunshine really dominating through the afternoon. Whilst that is happening, the WSW’ly wind will ease from fresh force 5 and gusty, to just moderate force 4 by the end of the day. Thursday and Friday will then see a gradual wind-shift from moderate force 4 SSW’ly on Thursday to SSE’ly on Friday. As this happens, the air will be mild and increasingly dry… skies rather cloudy and perhaps a little misty in the mornings, then generally bright and sunny in the afternoons. Max temps generally between 14 and 16°C, min temps generally between 9 and 11°C.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be 6-8 feet and a little choppy on Wednesday, then 3-5 feet and clean through Thursday and Friday. Windsurfers and kite-surfers will probably struggle on these days, unless they manage to salvage the last of the blast on Wednesday morning. Swimmers will find the smoothest water on the east coast on Wednesday, but then it will increasingly shift to the north and west coasts though Thursday and Friday. High tides at breakfast time (9.4m Wednesday, 9.2m Thursday, 9m Friday). Low tides in the early afternoons.

The Weekend

Weather

Dry and sunny both day. Days are short at this time of year though, so I really ought to mention how lovely the clear skies will be at night time too. So there will be lots of opportunity to walk, run, cycle and just generally enjoy the outdoors (if perhaps you have spent the majority of your time indoors lately. Winds will be moderate force 4 SSE’ly, which won’t be strong enough to be too bothersome, but it will be strong enough to let the temperature fall too low under those clear night skies. We are probably looking at a couple of days with max temps around 14-15°C and min temps around 9-10°C.

Surf and the Water

Gorgeously clean 6 foot surf (maybe bigger at times). Medium-large tidal movements, with highs around breakfast time and lows in the mid-afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Wednesday morning…
