Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 09 November 2022

Wednesday

Weather

Once any early morning showers have cleared off, we probably won’t see any more, because they will be so sparsely scattered that they are more likely to miss us than hit us. Skies will be mostly sunny, but we won’t lose the wind until quite late in the day… during the morning we will have a force 5 to 6 WSW’ly and through the afternoon we will have a force 4-5 W’ly. Therefore Town will be the most sheltered and mildest location, so we should easily hit a top temperature of 16°C there.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be 6-8 feet and rather choppy, and it will be a good day for windsurfers and kite-surfers especially in the morning. Swimmers will find the smoothest water on the east coast. High tide will be at breakfast time (9.4m). Low tides will be in the early afternoon.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Dry and often sunny, just the odd cloudy spell here and there. Temperatures will be much the same as recent days… peaking at 15-16°C by day and dropping off to about 11°C overnight. It will feel quite a lot nicer though, because winds will only be moderate force 4 for the majority of the time (SSW’ly on Thursday and SSE’ly on Friday). The west coast will probably be the place that really feels loveliest, especially down towards Pleinmont, where those tall steep slopes will provide the best shelter on the island.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be about 4 feet and clean through Thursday and much of Friday, but then it should crank up to about 6 feet by Friday evening. Swimmers will find the smoothest water on the north and west coasts (and also the east coast on Thursday morning). High tides will be at breakfast time (9.2m Thursday, 9m Friday). Low tides in the early afternoons.

The Weekend

Weather

If you will excuse the rain on Sunday night (late in the night) then we are in for a lovely dry weekend. The sun will shine plenty and the temperatures will pick up to quite impressive daily maxima of 16-17°C. The only slight fly in the ointment will be the rather fresh and perky wind… force 4 to 5 SSE’ly wind. Not a big deal really, but it will probably be enough to make to make you keep your jumpers on.

Surf and the Water

Gorgeously clean west-coast surf (6 feet on Saturday and 3 feet on Sunday). If you’re a windsurfer or a kite-surfer then Sunday should probably be the best day for you. Medium-large tidal movements, with highs around breakfast time and lows in the mid-afternoons.

Next Week

Weather

The detail is very uncertain, but the big question is really… are we going to continue the fine and settled conditions or are we going to return to the wetness and windiness that is more typical of November. Anyway, I’m afraid to say that it will probably be the latter. With this type of weather, temperatures will probably continue to peak around 14-16°C on most days and fall to a nightly minimum of around 11-13°C. Just in case you were wondering how close to the Winter Solstice we are (much more important than Christmas)… by the end of the week, our day-length will be 8hrs 58mins, and we will be about 5 weeks short of the shortest day of the year (which for the record is 8hrs 9mins in St Peter Port)..

Surf and the Water

With the constant presence of lows in the north Atlantic, there will be a steady supply of 4-6 foot surf (maybe a little bigger at times). However, with winds alternating between SSW’ly and WSW’ly, the waves will only sometimes be clean. Tides will be much smaller than of late, with mid-morning highs of less than 8m on Monday and Tuesday, and lunchtime highs of less than 6m through the rest of the week.

The next forecast update will be on Friday…
