Thursday
Weather
Sunny intervals and occasional heavy showers (ooh and keep your camera handy because this is bound to lead to a few pretty rainbows). Winds will be W’ly all day… generally fresh force 5 but occasionally strong force 6 a very gusty when those showers sweep through. Max temp 13°C, min temp 9°C.
Surf and the Water
After the crazy wind of Wednesday night, we will be left with a solid swell of 8+ feet, but I’m afraid the wind direction will make it very choppy. It should be pretty fantastic for windsurfing and kitesurfing though. Swimmers will find that Fermain or Havelet offer the smoothest water. Tidal movements will be very small, with a high of only 6.7m just after midday.
Friday
Weather
The wind will edge round to a WNW’ly direction, bringing quite a bit more in the way of sunshine, but still with a few showers dotted around (one or two of which are bound to hit us). In the morning, the wind strength will be force 5 to 6 just like on Thursday, but it should relax to moderate force 4 in the afternoon and that’s probably going to feel quite pleasant, even though the max temperature will only be a meagre 12°C. As for the overnight minimum, that’s going to be a chilly one, getting right down to 7°C, with some of the most sheltered locations running the smallest risk of ground frost.
Surf and the Water
The wind direction suggests that it might be worth looking to the south coast for a little novelty surf. It pretty hard to predict down there though, so best not to hold your breath whilst you’re keeping everything crossed. Windsurfers will probably want to make the most of the morning. Swimmers will be best off waiting for the afternoon. Tiny tidal movements again, with a high of 6.8m at 1:45pm.
The Weekend
Weather
It’s still looking as though Saturday will be the only full dry day of this week, so be sure to make the most of it, before strong winds and heavy showers return overnight and through Sunday. As for the winds… Saturday will see a gradual transition from a light W’ly to a fresh SW’ly and Sunday will see a strong and gusty W’ly throughout. Temperatures probably peaking at 12-13°C by day and falling to nightly minima of around 8-9°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will stay massive… likely clean on Saturday but getting quite difficult in the afternoon as the offshore wind becomes strong, then generally messier on Sunday when the winds become even stronger and swing to an onshore direction. Bigger tidal movements, with mid to late afternoon highs of 7.3m and 7.8m respectively.
Next Week
Weather
Same old ups and downs as we are experiencing this week, with no certainty about the timings, but most days split down the middle… one half dry and quite windy, the other half wet and very windy. Wind directions will alternate between W’ly and S’ly, which means that things will stay just on the mild side of average for November (maxima around 12-14°C, minima around 9-11°C). However, with sunshine being in short supply, it’s never going to feel very special and people will generally have to dig deep to maintain that healthy outdoor lifestyle.
Surf and the Water
Depending on the whims of the wind, the swimming conditions will either be best along the east coast or the north coast. Likewise, the prime surf conditions will alternate between west coast and north coast. The swell will be mostly 6-8 feet when it arrives at the most exposed locations, but there will probably be moments when it is a couple of feet above or below this range. Windsurfers and kite-surfers… happy days for you.
The next forecast update will be on Friday evening…
