Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 30 December 2022

Saturday (NY’s Eve)

Weather

Just as wet as Friday was, maybe even wetter, because the rain will be on and off right through the day, rather than taking a long afternoon break as it did on Friday. Good news for New Year’s Eve revellers though, because it should be dry from around 6 or 7pm, so you might be able to wear your fancy clothes without having to put an enormous jacket over the top of them. Temperatures will be about 12-13°C and then they will only drop off to 10 or 11°C during the night time. It is going to be a very windy affair though, with a force 6-7 SSW’ly blowing over the Island both day and the night. Fortunately Town will be relatively sheltered though, so the wind should only be about force 4-5 down there.

Surf and the Water

Super clean 6 foot surf on the west coast, although the offshore wind will be strong enough to make it very difficult. Heavy boards will have the upper hand. High water will be around 1pm, roughly 7.7m. If you want a final 2022 sea swim then this would probably be the best time to do it.

Sunday (NY’s Day)

Weather

A bit of a cloudy day, but it should be mostly dry, with only the outside chance of catching a shower before some persistent rain turns up around late afternoon or dusk. Winds will be from the same SSW’ly direction as on New Year’s Eve, but they should gradually ease… force 4-6 in the morning (depending if you are sheltered or exposed, relaxing to force 3-5 by late afternoon, and then falling very light indeed during the night time. Daytime max 11-12°C, overnight min 7-9°C.

Surf and the Water

Clean 6 foot surf again. This time the tide will be high around 2pm, and it will be roughly 7.4m. Once again that will be the best time to go, if you’re planning to have a New Year’s Day swim.

Monday

Weather

This will likely be the driest and sunniest day of the forecast period, with only the smallest chance of a shower or two, mainly around breakfast time. Winds will be nice and light too, only a light force 2-3 W’ly in the morning, backing SW’ly in the afternoon. Temperatures down a little on the previous days, but feeling much more comfortable due to the settled conditions. Max 10-11°C, min 7-8°C.

Surf and the Water

6 foot surf again… semi clean in the morning and then very clean in the afternoon. Low water will be at 9:15am. High water will be at 3:15pm (7.3m).

The Rest of Next Week

Weather

The calmness of Monday will be over in a flash, because the rest of the week will be dominated by a brisk SW’ly airflow. Not quite as strong as the previous week. This time it will fluctuate between moderate force 4 and strong force 6 from day to day. Also, the air will not be quite so moist and mild, yes there will be occasional drizzly showers and the cloud will be fairly thick and low, but it ought to stay high enough above the ground that we don’t see too much hill fog (hopefully not any). Max temps will generally be 10-11°C and min temps 8-9°C.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be reasonably clean each day, and it will fluctuate between 3-4 feet on the smaller days and 6-7 feet on the bigger days. Tides will be growing day by day, but never getting too huge, with the biggest high only being 8.4m around 6am on Friday.

The next forecast update will be on New Year’s Day …
