Saturday
Weather
A windier day than the previous couple, starting with a force 6-7 S’ly and finishing with a force 5-6 SW’ly. As for the rainfall, that will be fairly persistent until late morning and from then on it will be showery and sporadic, with those showers turning increasingly heavy as we head towards the evening and the night time. There could also be some hail and some very strong wind-gusts during the night time (40-45mph), so light sleepers will no doubt have a bit of a disturbed night. Daytime max 11°C, overnight min 8°C,
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will steadily increase from 6 feet to 8 feet. It will be super-clean in the morning but difficult to manage due to the strength of the wind. During the afternoon, the west coast will be a little bit choppier, but the north coast will be clean and the swell might just be big enough to get in there too. Low water will be around 1pm and high water will be around 7pm (8.4m).
Sunday
Weather
Much like Saturday night, heavy showers will blast through from time to time. However, there should be some decent sunny intervals in between (and obviously this means a few pretty rainbows too). The wind will follow a similar directional trend to Saturday, only slightly more veered… SSW’ly in the morning and WSW’ly in the afternoon. Wind speeds will be force 5-6 for the most part but they will likely step up to force 7 with gusts of 45-50mph when those heavy showers sweep across us. Slightly cooler air than on Saturday, giving us a daytime max of 10°C and an overnight min of 7°C,
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will continue to grow, this time from 10-12 feet in the morning to 12-14 feet in the afternoon. The west coast will be too big to manage really and it will be increasingly choppy. However, the north coast should be pretty classic, so I think we can expect it to be pretty busy up there. High water will be around 7:15m (8.8m) and low water will be around 1:45m.
Monday and Tuesday
Weather
We will see a reversal of the cooling trend across these two days. Monday will start with brief sunny intervals and occasional blustery hail showers, but through the afternoon the showers should die away and hazy sunshine should prevail. Then on Monday night, heavy and persistent rain will set in and this will last well into Tuesday morning, before turning patchy and drizzly for a time, and then returning to persistent and rather heavy in the night time. Both days, whether it be from the showers or the more persistent stuff, will see high rainfall totals (likely 5-10mm on Monday and 10-15mm on Tuesday). Winds will be strong force 7 WNW’ly through most of Monday, then they will relax significantly overnight, before blowing strong force 6 SSW’ly through most of Tuesday. Max temps 10°C on Monday and 13°C on Tuesday.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be 10-12 feet on Monday (very messy indeed along the west coast, but brave explorers my possibly take a look along the south coast). On Tuesday, the waves will become much cleaner along the west coast, and the size reduction to 6-8 feet will also make them much more manageable (but still only suitable for highly experienced surfers of course). High tides will be around breakfast time (8.6m and 8.5m respectively), low tides will be in the mid-afternoons.
Wednesday to Friday
Weather
It’s looking like we will lock into a simple story of sunny intervals, occasional showers and strong force 6 WSW’ly winds. With such a consistent airflow, we should also see a consistent temperature trace, holding pretty solid around 11°C, just dipping to around 9°C in the night time or with the passing of the heavier showers, and maybe just nipping up to 12°C if we are treated to some sunny spells around lunchtime.
Surf and the Water
More massive surf, generally around 10-12 feet along the west coast, and much more manageable along the north coast. As for the sea-swimmers, just like the earlier days in this forecast period, the sheltered east (particularly Fermain) is really the only area worth considering. High tides will be in the mid-mornings (8.3m, 8.1m and 7.9m respectively), low tides will be in the late afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Monday morning…
