Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 23 January 2023

Tuesday

Weather

A cloudy day, but the cloud sheet will be quite thin. Anybody going up in an aeroplane will find themselves in blazing sunshine before they even reach 3000 feet. As such, it won’t be surprising if a few cracks allow the sun to shine through at times, especially during the afternoon. The max temperature will be 7°C, which is the same as the last couple of days. However, on this occasion there will be a bit more wind (a moderate force 4 NE’ly), meaning that it will probably feel a bit colder.

Surf and the Water

Unfortunately, the cross shore wind will make a bit of a mess of the 3 foot surf, but there could still be some fun to be had at some spots during the morning. As for the best swimming conditions, they will be down along the south coast. High water will be roughly 9.7m at 8:20am. Low water will be at 2:50pm.

Wednesday

Weather

The cloud will probably be a bit higher up than on Tuesday, but it will cover the sky to a similar extent, only letting the sunshine peep through at times. However, that moderate NE’ly wind will slacken off to a very light N’ly, so it should feel a good deal more comfortable. It won’t stay lovely and calm during the night though, because a weather front will move in late evening, bringing patchy rain and drizzle and strengthening the wind to fresh force 5. Max temperature 8°C (or maybe 9°C in the late evening).

Surf and the Water

Much cleaner 4 foot surf on this day, and good swimming conditions all around the island (if you’ll excuse the winter temperatures that is). High water will be roughly 9.5m around 9am. Low water will be around 3:30pm.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Wednesday night’s wet weather will have cleared away nicely, but there is a chance that Thursday’s sunny spells will be punctuated by one or two showers. Furthermore, the wind will stay fresh force 5 (NNE’ly). Carrying on through Friday, no change in wind, or the chance of one or two shower, but the skies will be quite a lot cloudier. Max temperatures likely 8°C on Thursday and 7°C on Friday.

Surf and the Water

A couple of reasonable windsurfing days, but unfortunately the waves will not be good for regular surfers… choppy both days, 3 feet on Thursday and just 2 feet on Friday. As for the best swimming conditions, they will definitely be along the south coast during the mornings. Tides will be high mid-mornings (9.2m and 8.6m respectively). Low water will be around dusk.

The Weekend

Weather

Both Saturday and Sunday look cloudy with isolated showers. In that way the weekend will be just like Friday. However, the wind will be a moderate force 4 NW’ly, which will bring slightly milder air to the islands. Max temperatures likely 9°C both days, and feeling most comfortable along the south and east coasts.

Surf and the Water

The tidal movements will shrink further, with highs of 7.9m (late morning Saturday) and 7.3m (midday Sunday). As for the surf, that will remain 2 feet and quite choppy. And the best swimming conditions, they will be along the south and east coasts.

The next forecast update will be on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning…
