Thursday and Friday
Weather
Wednesday night’s wet weather will have cleared away nicely, but the wind will stay quite perky ( a force 4 to 5 NNE’ly). There is a chance that Thursday’s sunny spells will be punctuated by one or two showers, but we might get lucky and simply watch them pass by in the distance. Carrying on through Friday, no change in wind, or the chance of one or two showers, but the skies will be quite a lot cloudier. Max temperatures likely 8°C on Thursday and 7°C on Friday.
Surf and the Water
A couple of reasonable windsurfing days, but unfortunately the waves will not be good for regular surfers… choppy both days, 3 feet on Thursday and just 2 feet on Friday. As for the best swimming conditions, they will definitely be along the south coast during the mornings. Tides will be high mid-mornings (9.2m and 8.6m respectively). Low water will be around dusk.
The Weekend
Weather
Both Saturday and Sunday look cloudy with isolated showers. In that way the weekend will be just like Friday. However, the wind will be a light N’ly on Saturday and then a moderate WNW’ly on Sunday. This wind change will bring slightly milder air to the islands. Max temperatures likely 8°C on Saturday then 9°C on Sunday, and generally feeling most comfortable along the south and east coasts.
Surf and the Water
The tidal movements will shrink further, with highs of 7.9m (late morning Saturday) and 7.3m (midday Sunday). As for the surf, that will remain 2 feet, fairly clean on Saturday and then choppy on Sunday. And the best swimming conditions, they will generally be along the south and east coasts.
Next Week
Weather
It’s looking like a week of two halves, with the first half being dry and mostly sunny, then the second half being cloudier, and occasionally a bit wetter. Monday will be sunny but it will have a brisk NNW’y wind in the morning, gradually easing in the afternoon, as a high pressure system starts moving from the Atlantic into the mouth of the Channel. Tuesday will carry on sunny and it will have virtually no wind at all, as the high pressure system will be directly overhead. Then from Wednesday onward, the high pressure system will sink southward into France and we will be under the influence of an increasingly brisk and showery WSW’ly airflow. This is all a good recipe for mild weather in the winter time, so we will probably see max temps of between 9°C and 11°C every day.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be between 2 and 4 feet in height, through the majority of the week. However, if winds increase sufficiently through Thursday and Friday, then we will probably end up with a rather choppy 6 feet by the end of the working week. As for the tides, they will be small all week, with highs in the afternoons. Tuesday will be particularly tiny, with less than 3m depth difference between low water and high water (that, combined with the great weather, will make it a particularly good day to get in the water).
The next forecast update will be on Friday evening or Saturday morning…
