Saturday
Weather
Much like Thursday and Friday, the skies will be mostly covered by a sheet of cloud, but there will be holes in that sheet so some sunshine should slip through at times. Unlike the previous days, the cloud will never be thick enough to squeeze out a shower. And the other difference is that the NNE’ly wind will be quite a bit lighter, just force 3 in the morning and force 2 in the afternoon, so the miserly max temp of 7°C should feel a bit nicer than it sounds.
Surf and the Water
As the cross-shore wind eases and the west-coast surf becomes cleaner, it will also increase from a pathetic 1 foot at dawn to a decent 2-3 feet by dusk. It’s a long-period swell though, so there will be long lulls and close outs. If you see an available gem then paddle hard because it might be dark before the next one comes. High water will be slightly under 8m around 11:10am.
Sunday
Weather
Dry during daylight hours, with the only rain and drizzle being a late evening affair. Temperature-wise, Sunday will be an improvement on Saturday, with a max of 9°C. However, this will be offset by cloudier skies and an increasing wind (W’ly and picking up to moderate force 4 in the afternoon).
Surf and the Water
On this occasion it will be better to surf earlier, because the wind will be lightest in the morning and the waves will gradually decrease from 3 feet to 2 feet. If it’s swimming that you’re interested in then all coasts should be good in the morning, but the east coast will stand out as the best area in the afternoon. High water will be around 7.3m at midday.
Monday and Tuesday
Weather
A moderate force 4 NW’ly wind on Monday, picking up to a fresh force 5 W’ly on Tuesday. This is going to bring mild and moist air to the islands, so we can expect both days to be mostly cloudy, and that cloud will generally be very low, meaning that mist and drizzle will probably affect the higher parishes and the windward slopes. Town, however, will be nice and sheltered, so it should feel very comfortable there and it should even be quite bright at times (max temps 10-11°C).
Surf and the Water
Swimming conditions will generally be best along the east coast. As for the west-coast surf, that will be 1-3 feet and rather choppy for the most part. There will just be the odd moment that the onshore wind is light enough to clean things up and improve the quality, so keep a sharp eye out for those opportunities. Tiny tidal movements, with highs of less than 7m in the early afternoons.
Wednesday to Friday
Weather
Sunshine and showers. Only isolated showers though, and the air will still be on the mild side (max temps of 9-10°C). Winds will fluctuate between force 3-4 and force 4-5, but the direction will follow a distinct trend, veering from W’ly at the start of Wednesday to N’ly by the end of Friday.
Surf and the Water
Not much change in the quality of the surf through these three days as a whole, but there should be some windows of opportunity and the waves might be 1-2 feet larger than they were at the start of the week. As for the best swimming conditions, they will be mostly on the east coast, but probably on the south coast on Friday. The tidal movements will still be on the small side but they will be getting larger as the times of high water move closer to sunset… those tide heights 6.7m, 7.1m and 7.5m respectively.
The next forecast update will be on Monday…
