Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 30 January 2023

Tuesday

Weather

Some bright skies in the morning, but generally a cloudy day. During the afternoon, a weak weather front will pass eastwards across the islands, probably giving a brief splash of rain, but nothing heavy, just a brief spell of drizzle. Winds will be W’ly moderate force 4 for most of the day and then they will veer NW’ly in the late afternoon, just as that spell of drizzle comes to an end. Max temp 10°C.

Surf and the Water

Choppy 2-3 foot waves on the west coast, but reasonably good swimming conditions along the east coast during the afternoon. High water will be just a tiddler at 2:30pm (roughly 6.6m). ##Wednesday

Weather

Like most days this week, we are probably looking at dry weather but mostly cloudy skies, just the odd sunny interval every now and then. Also in common with the other days will be the 10°C max temperature. However, one thing that will stand out about this day is the wind, because it will be a bit stronger than the other days… a fresh force 5 WNW’ly for the most part. Just the outside chance of strong force 6 in the most exposed parts of the islands.

Surf and the Water

The surf won’t be any cleaner, but it will be bigger, picking up to 4-6 feet. The west coast will be best of all for windsurfing and kitesurfing though. Over at the sheltered eastern bays, particularly Fermain, the swimming conditions will be just as good as the previous days. High water will be roughly 6.7m at 3:50pm.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Two very similar days. Probably both dry, because the showers will be so light and sparsely scattered that we would have to be really unlucky to get wet. The temperature should peak at 10°C on both days, but there will be a couple of small differences… Thursday will have the most sunshine but it will also have the strongest wind (a moderate force 4 WNW’ly). By contrast, Friday is looking cloudier, with just a light force 3 W’ly breeze.

Surf and the Water

The surf will drop from 4 feet on Thursday to 3 feet on Friday. Those Friday waves will be nice and clean though, due to the significant weakening of the onshore wind. Low water will be in the late mornings and high water will be around dusk (roughly 7m and 7.4m respectively).

The Weekend

Weather

Winds will stay very light (a force 3 W’ly on Saturday and a force 2 NWly on Sunday). This should keep things very comfortable, even though it’s a really uncertain forecast with respect to how much sunshine will slip through the cracks in the cloud sheet, and whether or not we will catch any of the light showers that are rattling around the Channel. Whether we stay dry or not, it does look as though the air will be marginally cooler than the previous days, so we probably won’t see any higher temperatures than 9 degrees by day, and we will probably drop to 3 or 4 degrees in the night time, with a ground frost possible in places.

Surf and the Water

3-4 foot surf on Saturday picking up to 4-5 feet on Sunday. Both days should be pretty clean because the onshore wind will be quite light. Low water will be at lunchtime and the highs will be shortly before dawn and after dusk.

The next forecast update will be on Wednesday or Thursday…
