Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 04 February 2023

Sunday

After such a calm Saturday, Sunday’s ENE’ly wind will be very noticeable, even though it’s only moderate force 4. The morning will be mostly cloudy, but it will be sunny by lunchtime, and then the afternoon will be great for drying laundry. A great day for walk too, especially along the south coast cliff paths. The max temperature will be 8-9°C, which won’t feel especially cold. However, hot-water bottles at the ready, because the overnight min temp will only be 4-5°C.

Surf and the Water

Well Saturday’s surf was a bit soft but it was a start. Sunday, however should serve up some proper 4-5 foot juice. The only real problem is that the breakfast time session will be all chopped up by the brisk cross-shore wind. The next crack of the whip will be late afternoon and, by that time, the wind will be a bit lighter and closer to the optimum offshore. The high tides will be around 6:30am and 7pm (roughly 8.1m). Low tide will be around 1pm.

Monday to Wednesday

Weather

Three days and nights with almost entirely clear skies. Simple as that really, weather wise. So, the only remaining details are the winds and temperatures… Monday and Tuesday will both have force 3 to 4 E’ly winds, bringing max temps of 6-7°C and min temps of 2-3°C. The wind will then veer SE’ly on Wednesday and the temperature might just increase by half a degree, but it more likely than not reach the same highs and lows as the previous days.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be lovely and clean every day… 3 feet on Monday, picking up to 5 feet through Tuesday, then holding solid at 6 feet through Wednesday. The west coast will also be best for cold-water swimming, although obviously the more sheltered bays like Cobo and Ladies will be more appropriate for this. The tides will be high at breakfast time (8.5m on Monday and 8.6m on Tuesday and 8.7m on Wednesday). Low water will be in the early afternoons.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

The wind will flop round to a SW’ly direction on Thursday, before returning to a SE’ly on Friday. It will all be on the light side though (probably force 3), so the reason for talking about the wind is because it means that we will take a brief break from the dry continental influence and bring in some moister Atlantic for a time. Cloudy skies will be the main effect, but there might also be a brief spell of drizzle and mist patches. Max temperatures will likely increase to 7-8°C on Thursday and 8-9°C on Friday, which should feel like a very pleasant relief from the cold. Especially on Friday afternoon, when we should have some decent sunshine to welcome the weekend.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will probably ease back to 4 feet on Thursday before jumping back up to 6 feet on Friday. Those waves powerful and clean on both days. Once again, the sheltered west coast bays will be best for cold-water swimming. As for the tides, they will still be high at breakfast time (8.6m and 8.5m respectively). Low water will be in the mid to late afternoons.

The Weekend

Weather

The winds will stay SE’ly and probably increase moderate force 4 on Saturday, then fresh force 5 on Sunday. Both days should be sunny and dry, but high cloud will probably make that sunshine a bit hazy and milky. Max temperatures will probably be 9-10°C on both days.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be super-clean throughout, probably around 4 feet. Swimming conditions will also be good on the west coast, and the north coast will be nice and sheltered too. Definitely most sheltered around high tide which will be in the mid-mornings (8.2m and 7.9m respectively). Low water will be in the late afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Monday evening or Tuesday morning…
