Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 07 February 2023

Tuesday

Pretty much pure sunshine, just the odd smear of cloud as you look northwards. Winds will pick up to moderate force 4 ENE’ly by late morning, so there will certainly be a bit of a chill factor that you can add to the already cold air. Yes, despite the sunshine, temperatures will only peak at 7°C. Then during the night, the temperature will fall right down to around 2°C, with a ground frost in many areas.

Surf and the Water

If you don’t like your surf too big and powerful then be sure to seize the semi-clean 3-4 foot waves at dawn, because it won’t be long until they jump right up to 5 or 6 feet. High water will be about 8.5m, pretty much bang on sunrise. Low tide will be around 2pm.

Wednesday

Weather

Another super sunny one. The small difference will be the lighter SE’ly wind in the morning and then the almost flat calm conditions in the afternoon. This should make things feel much more comfortable, even if there’s no hope of temperatures climbing any higher than 7°C. Once again the night time will be very cold, with ground frost developing. However, during the second half of the night, a blanket of cloud will spread in and things should become slightly milder, so hopefully there will be no windscreen scraping required on Thursday morning.

Surf and the Water

The surf will hold around 5 or 6 feet but it will be quite a lot cleaner than on Tuesday. Winds will be very light as well, especially in the afternoon, which will mean that all coasts will be good for cold-water swimming. High water will be about 8.6m, about half an hour after sunrise. Low tide will be around 2:30pm.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

A couple of cloudy days, and much of that cloud will be low enough to put some mist on the hills. Most of that will be on Thursday, when a mild and moist (but very light) W’ly breeze probably gives us a few drizzly showers. Friday is looking to improve a little, as the breeze back SSW’ly and the cloud begins to facture, probably revealing a little sunshine during the afternoon. Both days peaking at 9°C, and the overnight periods likely be mild enough that we don’t get any ground frost.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will probably be 4-5 feet on Thursday, then 3-4 feet on Friday. Those waves pretty powerful and clean on both days. Once again, all coasts should be pretty good for cold-water swimming. As for the tides, they will still be high at breakfast time (8.6m and 8.5m respectively). Low water will be in the mid to late afternoons.

The Weekend

Weather

SE’ly winds will bring dry weather and sunshine on both days. Saturday’s sunshine will be somewhat compromised by a few cloudy spells, but the breeze will only be light force 3, so the 8°C max will feel pretty comfortable. Moving on to Sunday, on the one hand the sunshine will be more plentiful, but on the other hand the wind will spruce up to moderate force 4. Meaning that, on balance, the two days will be more or less equal (but Sunday will be better for drying the laundry).

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be super-clean throughout, probably 2-3 feet on Saturday, then 3-4 feet on Sunday. Swimming conditions will also be good on the west coast, and the north coast will be nice and sheltered too. Definitely most sheltered around high tide which will be in the mid-mornings (8.2m and 7.9m respectively). Low water will be in the late afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Wednesday evening…
