Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 08 February 2023

Thursday

A cloudy and almost windless day. We should see one or two bright intervals in the morning. However, during the afternoon, the cloud will be thicker and lower, meaning that there will probably be some drizzle and perhaps a little hill fog (daytime max 10°C). During the evening, the murky weather should clear off, leaving us with some starry skies during the latter part of the night (min temp 9°C).

Surf and the Water

Cleanish 4-5 foot waves along the west coast, and some decent swimming conditions all around the island. High water will be about 8.5m at 8:40am. Low tide will be around 3pm.

Friday

Weather

Partly cloudy skies day and night, meaning that we should see more sunshine than on Thursday, but nowhere near as much as through Monday to Wednesday. The wind will still be very light (a force 2 WSW’ly for the most part) wafting more mild air over the islands, so we should see another max of 10°C. Then during the night time, the min temp will only be 7°C, so there’s absolutely no danger of ground frost on this occasion.

Surf and the Water

Cleanish 3-4 foot waves along the west coast, and some decent swimming conditions all around the island. High water will be about 8.3m at 9:10am. Low tide will be around 3:30pm.

The Weekend

Weather

Through Saturday, the wind will gradually back to a ESE’ly direction but it will stay light (force 2 for the most part). Then through Sunday, it will hold that direction and strengthen to moderate force 4. Both days will be a mixture of cloud and sunshine. Currently Saturday looks more inclined towards the cloud and Sunday should lean more towards the sunshine. Temperatures should be pretty much the same though, with daily peaks of 9°C and nightly mins of roughly 5°C.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be super-clean throughout, probably 3 feet on Saturday and 4 feet on Sunday. Swimming conditions will also be good on the west coast too, especially around high tide, which will be in the mid-mornings (8.2m and 7.9m respectively). Low water will be in the late afternoons.

Next Week

Weather

Monday to Thursday all look very similar the weekend, with dry weather, mixed cloud and sunshine, and gentle to moderate SE’ly winds. Then, either late on Thursday or more likely on Friday, a band of rain (a cold front) will sweep though, bringing fresh a SSW’ly wind ahead of the front and then a gusty NW’ly after the front. Daily maxima should carry on between 9 and 11°C, nightly minima gradually increasing from and 5°C to around 8°C.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be gorgeously clean until that cold front sweeps through Friday. Wave heights will likely be 2-3 feet in the first half of the week, picking up to 4-6 feet through the second. Tides will be small on the whole, with highs ranging between 7 and 7.5m. Those highs starting off in the late morning, but getting later day by day, until it’s in the late afternoon come Friday.

The next forecast update will be on Saturday…
