Saturday
Weather
The weather will be rather repetitive across this seven-day period… just minor changes in wind strength but not in direction, and minor changes in cloud-cover but very little (if any) rainfall. Starting with Saturday, this should be the cloudiest weekend day, with the chance of catching a few light showers. The wind will be a force 4-5 ENE’ly, so you should still be able to dry the laundry, even if we do catch a few of those showers. Max daytime temperature a rather pathetic 7C. Minimum overnight temperature around 4-5°C.
Surf and the Water
Weak 1-2 foot surf on the west coast, with a rather irritating cross-shore wind. If it’s a smooth water swim that you fancy then the south coast will be best for that, along with one or two sheltered west coast nooks such as immideiately south of Lihou island and immediately south of Fort Grande Rocque. The tidal range will be slightly smaller than recent days, with a high of 8.9m at roughly 10am and low water at roughly 4:20pm.
Sunday
Weather
This should have less cloud than Saturday but there could still be a few showers during the morning. There should be a little sunshine at times, mainly in the afternoon, but it’s unlikely to raise the temperature any higher than 7°C again. Likewise, no change in the overnight minimum… probably 4-5°C again.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be very small again, roughly 1-2 feet, but there will be a bit more power in it, so there is a chance that some of the reefs will be rideable for the more experienced surfers. Once again, the south coast bays will be best for swimmers, as well as those tight little west coast corners. High water will be roughly 8m at 10:30am and low water will be at 4:50pm.
Monday and Tuesday
Weather
Much like the weekend, the first of these two days carries the greatest risk of showers, and the second day brings the greatest promise of sunshine. Otherwise, we are simply looking at two days of strong force 6 NE’ly winds, so it really isn’t going to feel pleasant. The daily max temps will probably stay around 7°C and the nightly min temps 4-5°C, but hats and scarves at the ready because the wind will make it feel quite a bit worse than that.
Surf and the Water
Tuesday’s waves will be about 3 feet, then Wednesday’s will gradually pick up to around 6 feet. The cross-shore wind will make the west-coast waves a bit messy but there will still be a lot of power in them. Alternatively, you might find some really clean waves down on the south coast, or some fairly rippable onshore waves up at Pembroke. Monday’s high water will be about 7.1m at roughly 11am, then Tuesday’s high water will be roughly 6.5m at midday.
The Rest of Next Week
Weather
This definitely looks like the better end of the week, because winds will drop off to force 3-4 (still coming from either a straight NE’ly direction or slightly veered to an ENE’ly). Skies should become much sunnier, meaning that the chances of any further showers will reduce to almost zero. Temperatures should respond accordingly, rising by a little bit each day, probably peaking at 9°C or maybe even 10°C by Friday.
Surf and the Water
Tiny tides, with afternoon highs that will all be less than 7m in depth. The west coast surf will decline by about 2 feet per day… 6 feet Wednesday, then 4 feet Thursday and 2 feet Friday. Winds will still be from that irritating cross-shore direction, but the will be a bit lighter, so the west-coast waves should be a little bit cleaner. Swimming conditions will still be best along the south coast.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday evening…
