Friday
Weather
A murky, drizzly, foggy start to the day, but dry and bright by late morning, then sunny spells and the odd brief shower in the afternoon. Watch out though, because those showers could be quite heavy if you get caught out. S’ly winds again, just like the last couple of days, moderate force 4 for the most parts. Max temps of 12-13°C, min temps around 9°C.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 4-5 foot surf. Good swimming conditions in the more sheltered west-coast bays, excellent up on the north coast and not too bad in one or two east coast nooks. Small tides again, with low water around 8:30am, then high water (7m) just before 3pm.
Saturday
Weather
Pretty much the same ingredients as on Friday, except that they might come in a different order, with the risk of mist and fog patches being pretty equally throughout the day and the night. That old S’ly wind will be a bit lighter too.. light force 3 in the morning, before it then changes to a light force 2 W’ly in the afternoon. Once again max temps of 12-13°C, min temps around 9°C.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 4-5 foot surf on the west coast again, and good swimming conditions on all coasts. Slightly bigger tidal movements, with low water just after 10am, then high water (7.8m) at 4:15pm.
Sunday
Weather
Apart from the chance of some drizzle early morning and late evening, it’s looking like a dry but rather cloudy day. There could be some mist or fog patches coming and going too, because the cloud will be very low at those times. That cloud should be a bit higher and thinner through the bulk of daylight hours though, so we should see some brightness, which would allow the temperature to climb almost as high as the previous days. The wind will be very light though… just a light force 2-3 W’ly, so it should feel very comfortable, especially in Town.
Surf and the Water
The surf will drop to 2-3 feet by the end of the day, but it will stay fairly clean because the onshore breeze will be so light. Once again, all coasts should be good for swimming, but the tidal movements will be bigger so there will be a bit more current with the ebb and the flow. Low water will be at 11:10am, then high water (8.4m) at 5:10pm.
Next Week
Weather
Monday and Tuesday will have more cloud than sunshine, but it should be dry for the vast majority of the time, and the light S’ly breeze will bring mild air to the islands, giving us suitable spring feelings for the Vernal Equinox (YAY!). After that, we are looking at force 4-5 SSW’ly winds on Wednesday, then strong force 6-7 winds from the same direction on Thursday and Friday. There will be more rainfall at the back end of the week too, with isolated showers from Wednesday night until Friday morning, then a more prolonged spell of rain likely on Friday.
Surf and the Water
Tiny surf on Monday, then clean 4 foot waves on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by much bigger surf on Thursday and Friday. The winds at the latter end of the week will still come from a good direction for surfers, but they will be strong enough to make things a bit difficult. Windsurfers and kite-surfers will no doubt be loving it though. Big tides, generally around dawn and dusk, starting the week with highs of around 9m and finishing the week with highs of about 10m.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday…
