Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 26 March 2023

Monday

Weather

The sunshine that we enjoyed through most of Sunday should carry on through most of Monday too. Just a few cloudier spells here and there, but not enough to spoil your day, especially considering that the SE’ly breeze will be lovely and light (only force 2-3 so barely noticeable really). Max and min temperatures pretty much the same as on Sunday… 11°C and 6°C respectively.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean surf, shrinking from 4-5 feet at the start of the day to about 3 feet at the end. The north and west coasts will be best for swimming, although the wind will only be light so the other coasts will be almost as smooth. High water will be around 11am (7.9m). Low water will be around 5pm.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather

Cloudier and windier than on Monday, but the max temp will be pretty much the same (11°C). Those winds will be force 5 SSE’ly, perhaps even strong force 6 in the afternoon, so you will definitely want to keep your jackets on. As for rainfall, well that’s only expected in the late afternoon and evening, so the bulk of the working day should be manageable for outdoor activities. The most sheltered area will be between Pleinmont and Vazon, so this will be the best place to head if you’re walking the dog or going for a run. Moving on to Wednesday, it’s going to be very similar but a couple of degrees warmer, and the rainfall coming in the morning rather than the afternoon. The winds just fractionally different… SSW’ly rather than SSE’ly but still fresh force 5, perhaps occasionally strong force 6.

Surf and the Water

Two more days of super-clean surf. Tuesday will be pretty titchy though… round about 2 feet, until a strong swell arrives towards dusk, giving us some 4 footers to finish the day. Wednesday’s waves will be about 5-6 feet throughout. North and west coasts will generally be best for swimming, although with stronger winds it will be more important to aim for high tide, when the land will offer a little more shelter. Those highs will be around 11:30am on Tuesday (7.1m) and around 12:15pm on Wednesday (6.6m).

Thursday and Friday

Weather

The wind will be the main feature of these two days… strong force 6 to 7 WSW’ly, making it feel pretty uncomfortable, even though the showers will only be brief and the sunny spells will be plentiful. The max temps will be right up there at 13°C, but you will really have to find a sheltered nook to enjoy it. East coast will certainly be the place to go, especially down at Fermain and along all those lovely trails between Havelet and Jerbourg.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be getting messier but, considering how large the swell will be, we will probably find some good waves on the north coast. Wave heights on Thursday… 6-8 feet on the west coast, 1-2 feet on the north. Wave heights on Friday 12 feet on the west-coast, 4-6 feet on the north. Tiny tides, with highs of 6m at 1:42pm on Thursday and 6.3m at 4pm on Friday.

The Weekend

Weather

Winds will be force 6 WNW’ly on Saturday, bringing lots of sunshine and probably no showers. So once again, you could really enjoy the 13°C temperature if you find an area with maximum shelter. This time, those east-coast locations will still be good, but so too will be a few south-coast bays… Moulin Huet, Saints Bay and Petit Port. Moving on to Sunday, winds will probably stay WNW’ly but reduce in strength to just moderate force 4 or possibly even light force 3. Nice as that sounds, it will be offset by cloudy skies though. This is because a very soggy low-pressure system is likely to affect Northern France. Current predictions suggest that it will be far enough away that Guernsey stays dry. However, forecasts can change quite a lot in a week, and in this case it wouldn’t have to change very much at all for that wet weather to shift its attention to Guernsey. As usual, watch this space for developments.

Surf and the Water

Messy waves for surfers, even up on the north coast. However, the windsurfers and kite-surfers will be happy as Larry. Saturday’s waves will be about 8 feet, gradually dropping to 6 feet. Then Sunday’s waves will probably be around 4 feet. Swimmers will find their ideally smooth water on the east and south coasts (preferably towards high tide). Low water will be in the late mornings and high water will be around dinner time (6.9m and 7.4m respectively).

The next forecast update will be on Thursday…
