Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 01 April 2023

Sunday

Weather

The morning, will be cloudy and there’s a slim chance of a shower around breakfast time. However, the NNE’ly wind will gradually ease from moderate force 4 to light force 3 and we do have some decent afternoon sunshine to look forward to. The south coast will be the loveliest place of all, if you want to get out there and enjoy it. The temperature will be a bit on the low side, only peaking at 11°C and then falling to an overnight minimum of about 5°C, with a ground frost possibly forming in places.

Surf and the Water

The surf will gradually shrink from 5 feet to 3 feet, a nice manageable size on the west coast but somewhat spoilt by the cross-shore wind I’m afraid. Swimmers will find the nicest conditions on the south coast, but there will also be some west-coast nooks (in the northern corners of the Bays) around high tide. Low water will be around 11:45am and high water will be around 5:45pm (7.3m).

Monday and Tuesday

Weather

Two gorgeous days, with mostly sunny skies and decreasing winds… force 4 ENE’ly at the start of Monday, dropping to force 2 and becoming variable by the end of Tuesday. This is all due to high pressure becoming centred nearby, trapping some relatively cool air over the islands. The sunshine will allow some reasonable heating during the daytime though (likely peaking at 11-12°C each day). However, that heat will escape easily under clear night skies, so we will probably see minimum temperatures of 5°C and there will be another chance of a late-season ground frost.

Surf and the Water

Despite the gorgeous sunshine and light winds, the surf will be disappointingly small on Monday… 2 feet around the early morning high tide and around 1 foot around the evening high. Tuesday will see a reversal of fortune though, with the gorgeously clean waves gradually increasing from 1-2 feet at dawn to about 5 feet by dusk. Both days excellent for swimming on all coasts (but especially the west). Low tides at lunchtime. High tides around dawn and shortly before dusk (just short of 8m on Monday and around 8.5m on Tuesday).

Wednesday and Thursday

Weather

It’s very uncertain how cloudy these two days will be, but it’s fair to say that they will be the cloudiest days of the week. The cloud could be thick enough and low enough for a time to give a little rain or drizzle. If this is going to occur then it will likely be on Wednesday morning. However, it might not happen at all, and if it does happen then it will be pretty light and insignificant. There could also be a few sunny intervals, and because the wind will only be a very light W’ly (force 1-3) then it should feel very comfortable. Max temps will be about 11-12°C on Wednesday, then 12-13°C on Thursday. Min temps will most likely be around 7-8°C.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean 3-4 foot surf on the west coast, and great swimming/paddle-boarding conditions all around the island. Low tides at lunchtime. High tides soon after dawn and around dusk (roughly 8.7m on Wednesday and 8.9m on Thursday).

Friday and The Weekend

Weather

Through Friday a moderate force E’ly wind will develop, which will then increase to fresh force 5 over the weekend. Skies will be sunny and the air won’t be cold, so if you can find a little shelter from that breeze then it should feel pretty lovely, especially in western areas. The UV index is now peaking firmly at 5, so fair skin can actually burn quite easily during the middle part of the day. Max temps will be around 13-14°C and min temps will be around 8°C.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean surf on the west coast (probably around 4 feet, steadily dropping off to 2 feet). Swimming conditions will be best out west too, especially at high tide, when the sea walls will offer shelter from the offshore winds. Tides will be low in the early afternoons and they will be high (roughly 9m) at breakfast time and soon after dusk.

The next forecast update will be on Monday or Tuesday…
