Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 04 April 2023

Wednesday

Weather

Tuesday’s sunshine turned rather hazy as high cirrus cloud invaded from the west. By Wednesday morning this will have thickened significantly, so any morning sunshine will be very weak, and then the afternoon will be straight-forward cloudy and grey. The first raindrops will probably come around 4pm and then the spits and spots will keep coming and going until they turn into persistent drizzle after dusk. Whilst all that is happening, our light force 2-3 winds will change from S’ly in the morning, to SW’ly in the afternoon, and then they will increase moderate forec 4 overnight. The temperature will only peak at around 10-11°C during the daytime, but the night time will be very mild, as the temperature only falls to a minimum of 9°C.

Surf and the Water

The 5 foot swell that built through Tuesday will hold on for Wednesday morning, but it will drop slightly (t 3-4 feet) for the latter part of the day. Winds will be light offshore in the morning, then light onshore in the afternoon/evening, so those waves should all be pretty clean. Likewise, the conditions will also be suitably smooth for sea-swimmers and paddle-boarders. Low tide will be at lunchtime. High tides will be around 7:15am and 7:30pm (8.7m and 8.8m respectively).

Thursday

Weather

The drizzle will probably still be with us at dawn, along with some mist and hill-fog. However, we will probably lose all that within the first hour of daylight, as the moderate force 4 wind veers from a WSW’ly direction to a WNW’ly. By 9am, or 10am at the latest, the sun should be shining down through a mere scattering of cloud, and it will probably stay like that for the rest of the day. The max temperature will be a higher than the previous day (peaking at 12-13°C). However, because the WNW’ly wind will be a tad stronger, it probably won’t feel very warm. The most sheltered and comfortable coast to go walking along will be the east, closely followed by the south.

Surf and the Water

The surf will pick back up to 5 feet, but with more strength in the onshore wind, it is going to be a bit of a lumpy old mess. Swimmers will find the best conditions along the east coast through most of the day, but also along the south coast in the evening. Low tide will be just after 2pm. High tides will be just before 8am and just after 8pm (both 9m).

Friday and The Weekend

Weather

Through Friday, the wind will be just a light force 2 NNE’ly and then it will gradually veer to a force 3 to 4 SE’ly by Saturday morning and hold it like that through the rest of the weekend. Skies will be mostly sunny and the air won’t be as cold as earlier in the week, so it’s worth being aware that the UV index is now peaking firmly at 5, so fair skin can actually burn quite easily during the middle part of the day. Max temps will be around 14°C and min temps will be around 6°C, 7°C and 8°C respectively.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean surf on the west coast… probably around 5 feet on Friday morning, steadily dropping to 3 feet by Saturday morning and holding that size through the weekend. Swimming conditions will be good all around the island on Friday, then definitely best out west through the weekend, especially at high tide, when the sea walls will offer shelter from the offshore winds. Tides will be low in the early afternoons and they will be high (roughly 9m) at breakfast time and soon after dusk.

Next Week

Weather

It’s looking like a week of S’ly or SW’ly breezes, nothing to strong and troublesome. However, this does mean that the air will be mild and moist, so the skies will be cloudy for quite a lot of the time and there will probably be the odd spell of mist and drizzle. There will be the odd half-day of sunshine as well, but we can’t be certain of any timing at this stage. Temperatures will generally peak between 13°C and 15°C each day and around then fall to between 8°C and 10°C each night.

Surf and the Water

Super-clean 3-4 foot surf on the west coast, and great swimming/paddle-boarding conditions all around the island. Low tides at lunchtime. High tides soon after dawn and around dusk (roughly 8.7m on Wednesday and 8.9m on Thursday).

The next forecast update will be on Thursday or Friday…
