Friday
Weather
The one and only wet day of this forecast period, so don’t be too depressed when you wake up to grey skies and big puddles, it will probably all be over by midday or 1pm. There will only be the slimmest chance of catching a brief shower during the rest of the afternoon and evening, with bright and breezy conditions dominating until dusk, and then clear skies and starlight prevailing overnight. Winds will be fresh force 5 at the start of the day, dropping to light force 3 SW’ly around lunchtime and then sprucing up to a force 5 NNW’ly by evening. The max temperature will be about 12°C and the overnight minimum will be about 7°C.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 4-5 foot surf early morning, gradually becoming choppy and onshore by late afternoon. Swimming conditions will generally be best in the afternoon (east coast) and in the evening (south coast). Tides will be low around dawn and dusk, and high around 2pm (6.8m, so just a tiny one).
Saturday
Weather
Dry and sunny, but with a chilly NNW’ly wind in the morning (moderate force 4). The afternoon should feel pretty pleasant though (max temp 13°C), as the wind gradually drops off to light force 2 by dusk. Winds will then stay light overnight, which could be the recipe for a cold one, but skies are currently expected to tun cloudy, so the overnight minimum will probably just be 7°C again.
Surf and the Water
Choppy 4-5 foot waves through the morning, gradually becoming clean as the onshore wind falls light through the afternoon. Swimming conditions will be best along the south coast through the majority of the day, but all coasts should be pretty smooth in the late afternoon and evening. Low tide will be at 9:30am and high tide (7m) will be at 3:45pm.
Sunday
Weather
A rather cloudy morning, followed by a super-sunny afternoon, all of it accompanied by the gentlest of SW’ly breezes (just a force 2), meaning that the temperature should peak at around 14-15°C and it’s really going to feel lovely. Overnight, the wind will gradually chance to a force 3 E’ly, but the sky will stay largely clear and starry, meaning that the temperature will fall fairly low again… probably 7°C but maybe as low as 6°C.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 3-4 foot surf and excellent conditions for swimming and paddle-boarding all around the island. Low water will be at 10:50am and high water will be around 5pm (7.6m).
Next Week
Weather
Monday will be about a degree warmer than Sunday (probably 15-16°C), with skies staying super-sunny but the ENE’ly wind gradually picking up to moderate force 4. Tuesday much the same, but the wind will reach fresh force 5 and this will certainly prevent the temperature from rising so high, so we will probably peak at 14°C on that day. As for the rest of the week, the forecast detail is not so certain, but it is at least looking mostly (if not entirely dry). Winds will probably nudge around to an ESE’ly direction and drop off to force 3-4 again. If we are blessed with lots of sunshine then this will bring some really healthy max temps, possibly as high as 16 or 17°C. However, if skies are mostly cloudy, then we will generally peak between 13 and 15°C.
Surf and the Water
The side-shore wind will be a bit of a spoiler of the 4 foot surf through Monday and Tuesday. Things should really clan up for the latter part of the week though, and the waves will most likely be in the 2-4 foot range. As for the tidal movements, we will be going into an episode of big spring tides, peaking on Thursday and Friday, when the highs will be about 9.6m.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday…
