Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 16 April 2023

Monday

Weather

A mixed bag of cloud and sunshine, but this time (as opposed to Sunday) the balance will definitely tip towards the sunshine. Winds will be more noticeable though… light force 2-3 E’ly in the morning and then force 3-4 NE’ly in the afternoon. These small changes will all balance out to give a similar max temperature to Sunday (13-14°C) and a slightly higher night-time temperatures (8-9°C for the minimum).

Surf and the Water

Clean 3-4 foot waves in the morning, becoming rather choppy with the cross-shore wind in the afternoon. If it’s a swim you’re after then all coasts will be good in the morning, then in the afternoon it will be best along the south coast and in a few cosy corners of the west coast. Low water will be around 11:45am and high tide will be around 5:45pm (8.3m).

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather

The wind direction will remain ENE’ly through these two days, but it will be blowing moderate force 4 to fresh force 5… superb for drying the laundry but a little bit pesky if you’re cycling against it, or if you’re planning to do a bit of sunbathing. Yes indeed, the skies will be mostly sunny (with a lunchtime UV index of 5, so wise to slap on the suncream) and the best places to enjoy the warmth (max temps around 13°C) will be along the south coast, or tucked up against the west-coast sea-walls.

Surf and the Water

The cross-offshore winds will put a bit of irritating chop on the west coast waves (4-5 feet on Tuesday, dropping to 2-3 feet for Wednesday). Swimming conditions will be best in the northern corners of the west-coast bays and also at a couple of south-coast bays, such as Petit Port and Jaonnet Bay… high tide for the west coast (around dawn and dinner time), low tide for the south coast (around lunchtime).

Thursday and Friday

Weather

The only real change for these two days is that we might just catch the odd brief shower, which drifts westwards from a weak low pressure system that is expected to develop over Belgium. The risk is pretty small though, so we are probably looking at the same old mix of cloudy spells and sunny spells, with the ENE’ly wind staying moderate to fresh through Thursday before falling light on Friday. If that all pans out as expected then we might just see the max temperatures increasing from 13°C on Thursday to 14 or even 15°C on Friday.

Surf and the Water

The spring tides will be peaking on these days… generally 9.6m high around breakfast time and dusk. The surf will be at a minimum though… just 1-2 feet on Thursday and virtually flat on Friday. Once again, the swimming conditions will be best in the northern corners of the west-coast bays and also at a couple of south-coast bays, such as Petit Port and Jaonnet Bay.

The Weekend

Weather

Mixed cloud and sunshine, but with the chance of one or two slow-moving showers. Light and variable winds, probably wafting at us from either a N’ly or a NE’ly direction. Max temps likely 15-16°C and feeling very pleasant.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be cleaner than the previous days, but not much bigger… 1-2 feet at best. Tides will be high around 9am and low around 3:30pm. Swimming conditions should be good on most coasts and best around high tide.

The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
