Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 29 April 2023

Sunday

Weather

A cloudy day on the whole, with some mist and hill fog at times. The morning will also have some patchy rain, but that should all be gone by midday or maybe 1pm if it’s a bit slow. The WNW’ly wind will be nice and light though (force 1-3), so the max temp of 14°C might be a couple of degrees lower than on Saturday, but it should feel nice and comfortable, especially along the east coast.

Surf and the Water

Maybe some surf of sufficient size and power on this day, that it can actually be ridden… 1-2 feet in the morning and 2-3 feet in the afternoon. Light onshore breezes so pretty clean on the whole. Great swimming and paddle-boarding conditions, especially at east coast spots like Bordeaux during the afternoon. Low water will be around 10am. High water will be about 6.7m at 4:10pm.

May Day Monday

Weather

Probably cloudy through the first half of the morning, but lovely and sunny through the rest of the day and then starry skies overnight. The max temp will be a lovely 15-16°C but the wind won’t be quite as light as the previous days... a force 3-4 WNW’ly (definitely feeling warmest in Town).

Surf and the Water

Sloppy choppy (but nicely rideable) 2-3 foot surf along the west coast. Once again, some lovely swimming and paddle-boarding conditions at east coast spots like Bordeaux or especially at Fermain, during the afternoon. Low water will be around 11am. High water will be about 7.3m at 5pm.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather

A dry and fog-free couple of days, with hazy sunshine and increasing winds… force 2-3 ENE’ly on Tuesday morning, increasing force 3-4 in the afternoon, then force 5 through most of Tuesday night and Wednesday. Inland places will feel warmest, as well as some sheltered corners of the west and south coasts. Max temps 15°C and 16°C respectively (with the UV index getting right up to 6, so definitely worth slapping on some sun cream).

Surf and the Water

Clean but very weak 2 foot surf, definitely a couple of days for longboarders and paddle-boarders. Swimming will be good all round the island on Tuesday, but it will definitely be a west-coast high-tide affair on Wednesday. Tides will be low around midday and high around dawn and dinner time (steadily picking up from around 7.5m to 8.3m).

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Strong E’ly winds on Thursday morning, will fall light and veer SW’ly in the afternoon, those winds will then back SE’ly and strengthen again through Friday. All those wind changes coming from the passing of showery weather fronts, so yes we are likely to see a few brief downpours. These should be punctuated by plenty of sunny interludes though, and temperatures should actually be just as high as the previous days (possibly even reaching 17°C on Thursday afternoon).

Surf and the Water

More tiny but clean and hopefully surfable waves on both days. Thursday morning looks pretty windy, but the rest of the time looks reasonably calm and therefore better for swimming and paddle-boarding etc. Tides will be low at lunchtime and high around breakfast time and dinner time (steadily picking up from around 8.5m to 9m).

The next forecast update will be on May Day Monday…
