Tuesday
Weather
The wind will be very light (force 2) ESE’ly in the morning, gradually picking up to a moderate force 4 ENE’ly by the time we reach the evening. This continental influence will bring warmer air to the islands. There will probably be some puffs of low cloud through the morning and lunchtime… left over scraps of sea mist that drifts across from the east end of the Channel. However, through the afternoon and evening, the only cloud we are likely to see is wispy high cirrus, which will just soften the sunshine a little but not take anything away from the temperature (peaking at 17-18°C) or the high UV (peaking at 6).
Surf and the Water
The surf should be 2 feet and clean in the morning (very weak and dribbly though I’m afraid), then it will be a bit choppy and even smaller/weaker in the afternoon and evening. Swimming conditions will be great in all areas through the morning and early afternoon, and then it will be best to head to the south coast or the west coast in the late afternoon and evening. High water will be around dawn and dinner time… 7.5m and 7.7m respectively. Low water will be at lunchtime.
Wednesday
Weather
Another gorgeous day of dry and sunny day. The sunshine often made hazy by the presence of that high cirrus cloud, but once again this won’t have any effect on the temperature or the UV. However, the wind will affect the temperature, because it will be a bit stronger (force 4-5 E’ly all day). This means that we will have a little more influence from the cooler water of the Channel than from the warmer land of France. The max temperature will probably be 16°C during the afternoon, but the feel-like temperature will be a couple of degrees lower than that, unless you find yourself a nicely sheltered spot.
Surf and the Water
Some slightly stronger 2 foot surf on this day, but with a fairly stiff offshore breeze to battle against. Swimming conditions will be best along the west coast around the times of high water (dawn and dinner time again, this time 8m and 8.3m respectively).
Thursday and Friday
Weather
Thursday is a sunshine and heavy showers day, so there is a bit of uncertainty about the temperature, because we might get clobbered by a few of those showers or they might all cruise by in the distance. We could peak anywhere between 14°C and 18°C, and we could catch anything between 1mm and 10mm of rainfall. What is fairly certain though, is the force 3-4 SSE’ly wind, which will feel very comfortable, whatever the weather. Moving on to Friday, the wind will veer to a SW’ly direction, which will probably bring cloudier skies but no threat of showers, making for a more predictable but rather boringly average day… max temperature 14-15°C.
Surf and the Water
More tiny but clean and hopefully surfable waves on both days. Winds are looking lightest around dawn and dusk, so those will be the best times for swimmers to take to the water. Tides will be low at lunchtime and high around breakfast time and dinner time (steadily picking up from around 8.5m to 9m).
The Weekend
Weather
Saturday is looking wet and murky, as a force 3-4 SSE’ly wind brings a very slow-moving weather front across the islands. Cloudy skies, patchy rain and drizzle, mist patches and probably some hill fog. That said, the air will be mild, so you shouldn’t feel too chilly (max temp 14-15°C again). Moving on to Sunday, the wind will veer to a WSW’ly direction, which will bring a continuation of cloudy skies but it should be mostly (if not entirely) dry, making for a third consecutive day with the unremarkable max temperature of 14-15°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf should be about 4 feet and clean on Saturday, then 3 feet and a bit sloppy/choppy on Sunday. Swimming conditions will be best along the west and north coasts on Saturday (especially around high tide) and then they will be best along the east coast on Sunday. Tides will be low in the early/mid-afternoons, and they will be high around breakfast time and dusk (9.1m each time).
The next forecast update will be on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning…
