Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 04 May 2023

Thursday

Weather

Wednesday’s warm air is still with us but the wind has simmered down to a force 3-4 SE’ly in the morning and a force 2-3 SW’ly in the afternoon. The sunny spells should lift temperatures as high as 17°C, which will feel lovely. However, this will be offset by a few showers, the first one will be mid-morning, then they will be rather random and unpredictable in the afternoon and evening. Those later showers are likely to be the heaviest though, possibly with some thunder and lightning.

Surf and the Water

Clean 1-2 foot waves for longboarders and kids. Good swimming conditions along the west coast and north too (unless things start to get thundery). High water will be around 6:30am and 7pm (8.5m and 8.7m respectively). Low water will be around 1pm.

Friday

Weather

The heavy (possibly thundery) showers might affect us in the morning, but they are very unlikely to bother us through the afternoon and evening. Winds will be force 3-4 SSW’ly, which will bring air that is almost as warm as the last few days, so we expect 16°C to be the top temperature but it’s not out of the question that we may hit 17°C again, if the sunny spells become prolonged. If you are having a lovely evening barbecue in your garden, then don’t forget to pack away properly, because it looks as though rain, drizzle and mist will develop pretty soon after midnight.

Surf and the Water

Clean 2-3 foot waves but probably still too weak for adult shortboarders. Good swimming conditions along the west and north coasts again. High water will be around 7:15am and 7:30pm (8.8m and 8.9m respectively). Low water will be around 1:30pm.

The Weekend

Weather

A thoroughly murky and damp Saturday morning. Likely staying cloudy and misty through the afternoon and overnight, but we probably won’t see any further rainfall, until some heavy showers come along on Sunday night. Daytime Sunday is looking partially sunny, so that currently looks to be the best day of the weekend weather-wise. Sunday’s air will be a bit cooler though, so the sunshine will only lift us to the same max of 15°C that we are expecting on the much cloudier Saturday. As for the weekend winds… force 3-4 both days but coming from a S’ly direction on Saturday and then a W’ly direction on Sunday.

Surf and the Water

2 foot surf for the most part, but maybe briefly 3-4 feet late Saturday and early Sunday. Swimming conditions will be best along the west and north coasts on Saturday, then along the east coast on Sunday. High tides will be about 9.1m at breakfast time and around dusk. Low tides will be in the early afternoons.

Next Week

Weather

Apart from Monday, which looks as though it will be very wet and murky, thanks to a force 4-5 SW’ly airflow, the rest of the week looks set to have cooler, cleaner air coming to us from a WNW’ly direction. This means we will probably see daily max temps of between 13°C and 15°C from Tuesday onward, with plenty of sunshine but also the odd brief shower (possibly heavy). The finest and most comfortable conditions will generally be along the south and east coasts.

Surf and the Water

The surf should vary between 2 and 5 feet. It will be messy for the most part but at least it won’t be flat. Swimming conditions will be best along the south and east coasts. High tides will be in the mornings (except on Friday when it will be at lunchtime). Low tide will be in the late afternoons (except on Thursday and Friday when it will be around dawn and at dinner time).

The next forecast update will be on Saturday morning…
