Saturday
Weather
A wet and murky start to a gradually improving morning… fog lifting off the hills and drizzle slowly giving way to thin cloud and brighter skies. The afternoon then, much like the previous couple of days, with showers in the area, many of which will miss the islands but some of which are bound to make an impact. Winds will be S’ly force 4-5 in the morning, veering SW’ly in the afternoon and then reducing to force 2-3 for the evening. Max temps, with very limited sunshine, peaking between 14 and 15°C. Min temps, with another misty and foggy night expected, hovering between 11 and 12°C.
Surf and the Water
Clean surf all day, starting off around 1-2 feet and hopefully finishing up around 3-4 feet. Swimming conditions will be best in the north and the west through most of the day, but all coasts should be good in the evening. High water will be about 9.1m at 7:50am and at 8:10pm. Low water at 2:10pm.
Sunday
Weather
Light force 2-3 WNW’ly breezes will bring a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine, but probably no rain whatsoever, making this the best weather day of this bank holiday bonanza. The best of the sunshine will be in the late afternoon and early evening, so fire up the barbecue and have fun fun fun. Max temps will be 14-15°C again and the min temps around 10 or 11°C under increasingly cloudy overnight skies.
Surf and the Water
Cleanish lumpy and sloppy waves in 2-3 foot range. Definitely worth a bash, for kids and learners at the very least. All coasts will be good for swimming, but especially the east and the south. High water will be about 9.1m at 8:30am and 9.4m at 8:45pm. Low water at 2:45pm.
BH Monday and Liberation Day
Weather
Moderate SSW winds will bring a full on murky Monday. There will barely be an hour that goes by without either mist and hill-fog, drizzle, rain or some kind of grotty grey combo. It won’t be either warm or cold though, just comfortably bland, with temperatures hovering right between 12°C and 14°C day and night. After some morning murkiness has cleared away, Liberation Day looks set to be mainly sunny, with only one or two brief showers (perhaps heavy though). We will have a force 3-4 W’ly wind, gradually increasing force 4-5 and keeping the temperature in check, meaning that it won’t actually get any warmer than murky Monday. Town will be nicely sheltered though, so the celebrations shouldn't be hindered by much apart from a shower or two, mainly around lunchtime.
Surf and the Water
1-2 foot dribbly surf through most of Monday, possibly picking up to 3 feet for the evening session. Then bigger choppier waves on Tuesday…3-4 feet gradually picking up to 5 or perhaps even 6 feet by the evening. Swimming conditions will be best along the west and north coasts on Monday, then along the east coast on Tuesday. Tides will be high between 9 and 10am (9m and 8.7m respectively), then low between 3 and 4pm.
The Rest of Next Week
Weather
Force 4-5 WNW’ly winds will bring relatively cool air, sunshine and showers on Wednesday, then light NNW’ly breezes will bring a dry and settled end to the week, the temperature never likely to climb above 15°C but feeling increasingly pleasant and comfortable, especially down on the south coast beaches and along those beautiful cliff paths.
Surf and the Water
The surf will very slowly change from 5 feet and messy to 2-3 feet and clean, so there should be plenty of decent sessions of one sort or another to be had. Swimming conditions will generally be best along the south coast, but the other coasts will definitely offer some nice smooth water at times. High tides will shrink each day as they shunt forward through late morning to lunchtime. Low tides shifting through late afternoon to dinner time.
The next forecast update will be on Monday or Tuesday…
