Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 09 May 2023

Liberation Day

Weather

Misty throughout the morning and maybe lunchtime too, with hill fog coming and going. Some showers early afternoon, possibly heavy, but then some decent sunshine from mid-afternoon into the evening. Max temp just 13-14°C with a light force 3 W’ly breeze in the morning, increasing moderate force 4 to fresh force 5 in the afternoon. Always feeling warmest in Town.

Surf and the Water

Choppy surf all day, but increasing in size nicely… 3 feet in the morning and early afternoon, then increasing to at least 6 feet by dusk. High water will be around 9:45am (8.7m). Low water will be around 4pm (2m). Swimming conditions will be best along the east coast, especially around high tide.

Wednesday and Thursday

Weather

Two days with a relatively cool W’ly airflow, bringing a sunshine and showers scenario to the Channel, with the sunshine being most prolific in the afternoons, whilst the mornings and the overnight periods take the lions’ share of the showers. However, even during those times, the showers will be few and far between. Furthermore, they will be brief, because that W’ly flow will always sweep them along quite swiftly, especially on Wednesday when winds will be force 4 to 5. On Thursday morning, the winds will drop slightly to force 3 to 4, then by Thursday evening they will have fallen very light indeed (to just a force 2 NW’ly). Temperatures will only peak at 13-14°C each day, but this will start to feel nicer as the wind falls lighter, so I imagine there will be lots of sunny smiles on Thursday afternoon, especially in Town.

Surf and the Water

Two more days of solid surf (4-6 feet) but remaining choppy through the majority of the time, only really cleaning up on Thursday afternoon because the onshore wind falls lighter then. East coast will generally be best for swimming, but all coasts will be decent enough later Thursday, when those winds fall light. High tides will be late mornings (8.2m and 7.7m respectively). Low tides will be late afternoons.

Friday and The Weekend

Weather

The temperature will only sneak up a little bit (probably peaking at 15 °C each day), but this will definitely be the better end of the week weather-wise. Sunday is threatening to drop a couple of showers on us, but apart from that we should be looking at dry and largely sunny weather through these three days. Winds will not be strong (light force 2-3 for the most part) but they will be coming from a N’ly or NW’ly direction, so when they occasionally pick up to moderate force 4 then they could feel a bit chilly. Simply head to the south coast to harness a little more toastiness.

Surf and the Water

Cleaner waves on the whole, due to winds being mostly light force 3, although still never blowing in an offshore direction. The surf shrinking… 2-3 feet through the majority of this time, maybe as small as just 1 foot for a time on Saturday. Small tides… ranging between 7.1m and 7.4m on the highs (lunchtime Friday and Saturday, mid-afternoon Sunday).

The next forecast update will be on Thursday evening…
