Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 24 May 2023

Thursday

Weather

Floorless sunshine once again, but with a stronger wind than on Wednesday, this time a moderate force 4 NE’ly, so it won’t feel quite so warm, even though the max temperature will be about the same (16°C). To feel warmer, get yourself in the shelter of a decent west-coast sea-wall, especially towards the end of the day when it has soaked up all that sunshine. Other nicely sheltered spots include Petit Port, Petit Bot and Saints Bay.

Surf and the Water

After a generally flat day of west-coast surf, we might just see a pulse of 2 footers in the evening. The same old cross-shore wind will be on it though I’m afraid. Like every other day of late, swimming conditions will be best along the south coast and in the northern corners of the west-coast bays. High tide will be just 8.5m at 10:40am. Low water will be at 5pm.

Friday

Weather

Stronger winds again, this time a fresh force 5 ENE’ly. The temperature peaking around the same mark15-16°Cc, thanks to another full dose of sunshine. However, it will be even more important to find some shelter, especially if you’re planning to launch the weekend with a barbecue.

Surf and the Water

2 foot of swell on the west coast, that will be totally messed up by the cross-shore wind. However, it might be surfable in a similar capacity up at Pembroke, where the wind will be onshore. Kite-surfing and windsurfing will certainly be the best activities on this day. High tide will be just 7.9m at 11:20am. Low water will be at 5:45pm.

The Weekend

Weather

Once again the weather will be dry and mostly sunny, with the wind sticking rigidly to its NE’ly direction. The only daily differences will be the strength of the wind and the effect that it has on temperature. Saturday will see a gradual relaxation from fresh force 5 to moderate force 4, then Sunday will hopefully see a further relaxation from moderate force 4 to light force 3. The temperature therefore likely to be a degree or two higher on Sunday (19-20°C on Sunday versus 18°C on Saturday).

Surf and the Water

Two more days of poor quality surf, with the swell actually diminishing to near flat, and the cross-shore wind really ruining whatever swell does manage to sneak through. Kite-surfers will probably have a bit of a blast on Saturday though. Swimming conditions will continue to be best along the south coast and in those few sheltered west-coast nooks. Tidal movements will be tiny, with lunchtime highs of just 6.5m.

Next Week

Weather

It’s pretty much like the previous week repeated. Same wind direction, along with lots and lots of sunshine (and no rain whatsoever). Winds look strongest in the first half of the week and this will likely plunge daily max temperatures about 3-4°C lower than Sunday’s balmy 19-20°C. The second half of the week should have lighter winds and higher temperatures, but very little else is likely to change.

Surf and the Water

Tides will be tiny on Monday (with a high of just 6.6m around 3pm) but they will increase day by day until they are pretty large by Friday (highs of around 8.3m shortly before 6am and shortly after 6pm). In the surf, we are looking at flat conditions Monday to Wednesday (unless the onshore wind turns up some rideable waves at Pembroke). There’s a possibility of some better quality west-coast surf at the end of the week, but even this would be small (1-2 feet) and there is an equally high chance that it will remain flat.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday morning…
